Hanna,

Thank you so much for the ride, Saturday!!

My wife and i had an incredible time. We did wind up riding 19.7 miles, just taking side trails, and should you decide to have another tribute for Phoebe, please let me know. Thank your sister for the refreshments.

Hey there, riders!

Todd brought up the looming tropical storm and I wanted to put an idea out there:

Anyone who plans to complete the ride will receive a special thank you package -- available for shipment if you choose to join us virtually and ride indoor/outdoor at a (safe) location near you!!

Just curious! How is the tropical storm going to affect our ride?? I am driving 4 hours to be there, and need 2 days to cancel my room.

Hi, Todd!

There is a 40% chance of rain/t-storms as the weather service currently predicts a tropical depression. If you are uncertain and wish to be cautious, please let me know and I'll send you a 'thank you' packet. We would be touched if you chose to ride the miles in your local area. I've posted the latest local weather update below.

1. PACK THE ESSENTIALS: Bring a small bag for your identification card, insurance card, cell phone or data trackers if you plan to map digitally, as well as the provided route map with marked stops

2. WEAR THE RIGHT GEAR: Helmet is required for all participants. Synthetic athletic fibers such as tech tee's and padded shorts are recommended, while cotton fabrics are generally discouraged. Bring extra socks. Carry water reservoir/bottle you can easily access during the ride.

Prepare Your Bike

1. PRACTICE PEDALING

Try to ride 10 miles twice this week. Then add 2 miles to your longest ride next week. Then add 2 MORE miles to your longest ride. Get a good night's rest before the ride.

2. KNOW YOUR MAINTENANCE

Learn to replace a tire tube by attending a workshop or watching a YouTube video and then attempting. Bring the basics: spare tire tube, tire levers, patch kit, pump or CO2 cartridge, multi-tool

Prepare Your Body

1. FUEL WITH FOOD

BEFORE: Lean proteins like beans and fish, healthy fats like nuts and avocados, fruits and vegetables

AFTER: Start with simple carbs like fruits and breads, then small amounts of protein like nuts or yogurt

2. HYDRATE HARD & PRACTICE TAKING A SIP

Drink frequently in small amounts and consume about one bottle, or 1 Liter, of fluid per hour. To get in the habit of this, build it into your training so that it becomes first nature to drink every 10-15 minutes.

This weekend I will be posting helpful tips to prepare for our group ride which is just three weeks away!

This is a fun ride, not a race; each rider is encouraged to set their own pace and ride as much of the route as possible.

Two refreshment and first aid stations will be set up along the route -- start/end point at Hurricane Alley and midway point at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Riders will have access to water bottle refill coolers, refuel snacks, and basic triage first aid.

Welcome fellow riders for the cause!

Lone Star Wheelers are so excited to share this group ride with each of you. We ride because no parent should have to bury their child, and no child should spend their days receiving medical treatment instead of riding bikes and running wild.

This ride is dedicated to Phoebe Fair.
