Ellie was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was just 10 months old. After going through surgery to remove the tumor on her neck, she relapsed at 14 months, though her relapse wasn't caught until shortly after her 4th birthday in June 2015. Doctors found cancer in seven new locations. In the last year, Ellie has endured MIBG scans, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow biopsies and 36 sessions of proton radiation.
Treated at both University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Ellie’s family travels consistently between Minnesota and New York. Currently, she’s continuing a phase I trial treatment of immunotherapy which aims to train the body on how to recognize and attack neuroblastoma cells.
Ellie attends both Shirely G. More pre-school at the University of Minnesota and also participates in school at the hospital, offered by Sloan Kettering. Ellie loves spending time with her neighbor friends and grandparents, playing dress up, singing and dancing, eating ice-cream and derives a lot of inspiration and happiness from the movie Inside Out.
