My Story

14 Feb 2020

This June, I am again riding in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

It will truly be a challenge for me as I have not ridden much since last year.

Some of you may know that I myself am a cancer survivor, and I am truly grateful for the medical research that made it possible. But there is a big difference between cancer hitting an old woman who has lived a while and has kids and grandkids, and the cancer of a tiny child who has hardly even started to live.

Right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to support Children's Cancer Research Fund to support

their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

  • face masks, anyone?
    6 Apr 2020

To encourage contributions toward my Great Cycle Challenge in September, I will gift my contributors one hand made home-sewn face mask for each contribution of $5, limit 4 per person, while supplies last, limited time only. I have seen similar masks sold locally for $10. These have a wire to shape around nose and a slit to insert filter fabric of your choice.

They are made of high-quality quilting fabric. Fabric patterns will vary. Please check on availability and send your address or instructions for delivery by private message before making your contribution at www.greatcyclechallenge.com/riders/brendafish

    Free local pickup,

As of April 15, 2020, all orders requiring mailing should be purchased through etsy, and I will make the 5$ contribution in your name.

  • Rain, Rain, Go away
    11 Mar 2020

I am looking at the Weather Channel and it says there is zero chance of rain until 2:00 pm, when it changes to 10% chance. It says current conditions are "fog." Its the rainiest fog I've been in for a while, and the temperature is 37 degrees.

I was hoping to get a ride in this afternoon. But I don't want hypothermia.

I revised yesterday's blog post to change the Yellow Springs stop to Xenia, because I learned there was an Airbnb 75 steps away from the trail in Xenia.

    1 Mar 2020

I am planning my Ohio ride. So far, this is what I have come up with. The southern Ohio part of the ride is very confusing. I would like to stay under 50 miles a day, especially if there is a lot of hill climbing.

I also don't want to carry a tent and sleeping bag. So looking for places to stay.

The part of my trip around Xenia is especially confusing.

    Saturday Day 1 - Cincinnati to Lebanon https://goo.gl/maps/CD4dGsBBDZLax1856 = 42.1 miles 1066 ft elevation

    Sunday Day 2 - Lebanon to Xenia https://goo.gl/maps/D225CDNz1owjrEuc9 = 29.3 miles 538 ft. elevation

    Monday Day 3 - Xenia to London - https://goo.gl/maps/5JPG9ac9WaamZxQY8 = 31.9 miles 236 ft. elevation

    Tuesday Day 4 - London to Columbus - https://goo.gl/maps/FKgf1Q8uLSQ3c1Sb9 = 32 miles 230 ft elevation

    Wednesday Day 5 - Columbus to Mt. Vernon - https://goo.gl/maps/eLWkDiJpU8tGDAV97 = 48.7 miles - 696 ft elevation

Thursday Day 6 - Mt. Vernon to Millersburg (to Mansfield) - https://goo.gl/maps/niJDEqWhntoe8xzE9 43.1 miles 912 ft elevation

Friday Day 7 - Millersburg to Canal Fulton- https://goo.gl/maps/niJDEqWhntoe8xzE9 48.1 miles 1066 ft. elevation

Saturday Day 8 - Canal Grille to Sagamore Hills https://goo.gl/maps/dyKR25Uv4RJu5xtS7 46.9 miles 650 ft. elevation

Sunday Day 9 - Sagamore Hills to Edgewater Park https://goo.gl/maps/uhnDj1V98rpuSjqx7 18.8 miles 207 ft. elevation
