Ian

I'm sorry I failed you, son.

My Story

3 May 2019

I never knew Ian after his mother and I divorced.

Occasional digital drive-bys on social media pages showed a handsome young man growing up, with tennis rackets and school dances.

But when his mother reached out to me to tell me he had been hospitalized with Renal Medullary Carcinoma, I felt something that I never want anyone else to feel.

I felt regret.

Regret for selfishly blaming others for my lack of taking responsibility as a father. Regret for avoiding attempts to be a part of his life. Regret for failing him, like his kidneys eventually did.

He passed away in 2018, before his 22nd birthday, less than a year after his diagnosis. To this day I haven't received any replies to messages to his mother. I understand and bear no animosity.

What I do bear is a responsibility to do something in his name to give others a crack at survival.

Can I count on you to help me reach my goal?

If so, then please pledge as much as you can to help me honor my son Ian's memory.
