My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

I think I'm gonna make it, you guys. I think I'm gonna make my goal.

I know I've said this before, but I really didn't want to go to the gym yesterday. I had a long, arduous day at work and the thought of riding 10 miles was a ludicrous one, I felt. I thought of every excuse on my commute home, but once I walked through the door of my apartment, my sense of determination kicked in (had that commute been restful? Of course not.). I had decided that I wasn't going to let another goal go unmet. So, I got dressed as fast as I could and I headed out.

    Best. Ride. Yet.

Something about this ride was so nice and easy. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that I'd set aside an hour to ride 10 miles, but it only took a little over a half an hour. It relieved my anxiety surrounding how much time I'd have to get personal things done before I had to go to bed. All I had to do was focus on breathing, which, as it turns out, is super calming. Lol

Happy to be 10 miles closer to my goal. Can't wait to get back in the saddle for my final ride.

Whoa, you guys...this is getting pretty serious.

I hit the gym on Saturday afternoon. If I'm being honest, I did not feel like riding. I have a pretty long gym routine as is, so the idea of tacking on a half-hour long bike ride at the end of it was a bit daunting. The thing that always motivates me to go a little longer and work a little harder is thinking about those who are not physically able to do these things. How could I not ride a little bit for those who cannot ride? How could I not run a little longer for those who can't run? How could I not use my talents, skills, and abilities to bring attention to a cause that benefits the little ones who are in need?

So, ride I did and I rode for longer than I have ever before during this challenge.

Thank you again to anyone who has donated. Your generosity is the additional motivation I need.

    I am blown away.

Today, I was pleasantly distracted by several notifications about donations my friends, family, and other supporters had made. I went to the gym, tired, but strengthened by the thought of doing everyone proud. I did my full usual weightlifting routine and followed it up with a nice, steady ride on a stationary bike.

Yes, that's the wrong order to do that if you're focused on gains. Today, I don't care. Gains can wait. 😊

    11 Jun 2019

I took my first ride for this challenge this past Saturday. Not gonna lie, it felt like the first time. For those of you who know me, you may know that I stopped phoning it in this year regarding fitness. I've been doing a lot of weightlifting. You may not know that I've been doing little in regards to cardio. I was in need of getting in some workouts for heart health and I thought "What better time than now?" Looking forward to ride #2 tomorrow. 😊
