My Story

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Lisa

  • MILEAGE GOAL MET & SURPASSED!
    28 Sep 2020

After living here for over 23 years, for the first time, I rode on what is called the West Ashley Greenway with my husband. A funny thing happened towards the end of our ride. I grabbed my phone off my phone holder to take a quick photo while riding slower and dropped the phone on the gravel (yes, it survived because it has a good case on it). HOWEVER, in my attempt to slow down with Tony behind me, I pulled one foot out of the clipless pedal (something I've successfully done hundreds of times), but couldn't pull the other one out. In what felt like slow motion (and later I was told it actually was), I fell over to one side with my bike falling on top of me.🏍 A masked audience of walkers ran over to ask me if I was okay and if I needed help. While laughing at my clumsiness, I was grateful to take any help. Luckily, other than a little gravel slightly imbedded on my leg, a few tiny scrapes, and a bruise on my thigh, I am no worse for the wear. Nothing like a humbling experience! I need more of those where I don't get physically injured...just get a bruised ego. "It's character building," my mother would say. 😉

Back to the business of why I am here...the Children's Cancer Research Fund. I'm excited that I completed my mileage goal ahead of the month's end. I am very appreciative of those of you who continue to support me in this annual endeavor especially this year with budgets being tighter than ever. I'm thankful for the new donors who have surprised me with donations. That being said, while we have raised $2,439 of my $2,600 monthly goal, my ultimate, cumulative 5-year goal of is $10,000 and we are JUST $161 from that. We have 3 days to reach that so I'm pushing to reach that. If you know anyone who can reach this goal, even with a donation of $5, every little bit helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful week! Stay safe! 🧡💙

  • So close to my goals--can you help, PLEASE
    25 Sep 2020

90% of my ride goal is completed. That's 271 miles of my 300-mile goal. 78% of my fundraising goal reached. That's $2,035.58 of my $2,600 goal. Please help me reach my financial goal. $5? $10?

  • Tire Bulge
    21 Sep 2020

So, yesterday I set out to ride another 25 miles but after approximately 8 miles, I noticed my bike was not riding as smoothly, as if a rock had lodged itself into my rear tire which would be nearly impossible since I have road slicks (tires without major tread). Upon inspection, I noticed a bulge in the rear tire and knew I wasn't going to be finishing the ride because of the risk of the tire basically exploding. Tony came to pick me up since I was miles from home. I tried to repair the tire to no avail and went to the local bike shop to see if they had any suggestions. I did not have enough time to change out both tires for Sunday's ride although I put my original gravel tires back on for Monday. This afternoon, I'll get back on for more miles to complete the 25 miles from yesterday and add some more for today. Thank you all for your support. I'm 77 miles from my 300-mile goal and I'm confident that I'll not only reach that goal but surpass it. I'm $564 short of my financial goal and I am equally confident I will reach that goal as well. I have yet not to meet my goals for the Great Cycle Challenge. If you are able to share my link with friends and family who might support this great cause, even if only a small donation, I would be grateful for the shout out! Until then, enjoy International Peace Day! Spread some peace and pray for our children, the future. Thank you for your support!

  • Update about Covid-19 temporarily closing Childhood Cancer Research Labs
    31 Aug 2020

Like almost everything in 2020, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is different this year.

COVID-19 temporarily closed childhood cancer research labs and slowed down research progress nationwide.

That means our nation’s most vulnerable patients, kids like Harriet, have to wait even longer for better treatments.

But cancer doesn’t play fair with kids, and it won’t wait.

That’s why we are committed to always move forward, despite the roadblocks put in front of cancer research today.

Kids are depending on all of us to speed up research that has been slowed down by COVID-19. There are many ways you can help always move research forward, especially this month:

  • We Must Never Give Up Hope!
    31 Aug 2020

I hope you and your families are doing well and remain healthy during this pandemic.

For those who have sponsored me in the past, thank you for your sponsorship in the past to help me raise funds for the Children's Cancer Research Fund during the month of June.  This year, due to Covid-19, the annual Great Cycle Challenge was postponed until September this year, which coincides with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Tomorrow, September 1st, I begin another journey riding at least 300 miles, in the Great Cycle Challenge, to raise $2,600 during the month of September.  Over the course of the past 5 years, together, we (that means, you and all of my other sponsors) have raised over $7,400.  My hope this year, is to raise an additional $2,600 to top out at raising over $10,000.

Great Cycle Challenge started in 2015, and after just 5 years, the event has grown to become one of the biggest cycling events in the United States.

People of all ages, abilities, and from every state across the country set themselves a personal riding goal and challenge themselves to pedal to fight kids’ cancer.

In 5 years, our community of riders from all 50 states has ridden a total of 18,831,310 miles, and together we’ve raised $24,615,507 in support of research to develop better treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

While we are experiencing some unprecedented times, I believe it is even more important to work towards a cure for children's cancer because not only are our children most vulnerable but they are our future.  We need to protect them at all times.

If you are able, please support my 300-mile challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page:

    https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/LisaGiuliani/m

All funds raised will support the Children's Cancer Research Fund to continue their work to develop treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

    Be safe!
