7 years riding and 8 jerseys earned! Last year thanks to some very generous donors, I also earned the Super Hero Jersey! Thank you all who have supported me over the years. Children should not suffer in pain with cancer and I hope one day we won’t need this ride but until then, as long as my body will allow it, I WILL RIDE!
Join us for our 4rd Annual Gator Group Ride to raise awareness for Children’s Cancer. This year the St Tammany Trace is closed for debris cleanup from Hurricane Ida, so we are switching our route to the South Shore to ride the Lakefront at sunrise! If you have not experienced riding the lake at sunrise you are in for a real treat!
We will depart at 6:15 am from the Treasure Chest Casino parking and ride the bike path to Bucktown at sunrise! This will be a fitness pace ride averaging 12-15 mph with a couple photo op stops of course! Approximate distance round trip is 20 miles.
Wear your GCC Jersey if you have one (any year) and helmets are highly recommended!
Let's get out and RIDE at SUNRISE to “Take A BITE Out of Children’s Cancer”!
We have some tropical weather in the forecast today and I may not be able to make many miles but I WILL RIDE RAIN or SHINE because today your donations will be matched by a private donor! Won’t you please support my ride in the fight against Children’s Cancer by making a donation! No amount is too small!
I needed to get out of the house for some bike therapy so I threw on my new GCC tank top and hit the streets to get my first good ride in since Hurricane Ida hit my area. When I look at all the devastation around and see the people struggling and fighting to clean up the debris Hurricane Ida left behind, I think of the kids with Cancer who have to fight every day just to see another tomorrow. This is why we ride so that one day there will be no more pain and there will be no more Cancer.
Hello from Hurricane ravaged Louisiana. With no power, a failed generator and a heat index of 104 it’s been a struggle to get any miles in. Many streets are still impassable due to downed wires but I try to ride my bike when I do go out to visit a friend for a meal or to sit in the AC for a moment. Tomorrow is a new day and little by little we are picking up the pieces and hopefully I can get a good ride in for the kids fighting cancer.
I managed to get a short ride in to kick off my challenge but it was not without a struggle. As you may know my area was devastated on 8/29 when Hurricane Ida slammed us with 120 mpg winds for over 6 hours straight destroying nearly everything In it’s path. Today consisted of riding in the rain looking for a little deaf dog that got loose from a neighbors house and just riding around the streets that I could in my neighborhood checking out the damage. It’s hot, we are tired and we are emotionally hanging in there by a thread but then I think about the children with cancer who fight every day of their life to survive and I knew I needed to make an attempt at kicking off my challenge today with a ride. Praying for better days ahead.
Got my mask today and I just love it!!! Contact Mayhieli Cortez Barroso if you would like a mask. She is asking for a $10 donation to her fundraising page plus $5 shipping via Venmo payment.
Wednesday, August 25 is Tribute Day and each year on this day GCC will post pictures up on the huge Times Square Billboard to honor those we've lost, celebrate those we're riding to support and recognize the incredible fundraising efforts of the riders! In order to reserve a spot to get Avery’s photo (and mine) posted on the billboard all I need to do is raise $50 and I’m $15 away from reaching this first goal!
This is my 7th year riding and my goal is to ride 400 miles during the month of September. I hope I can count on your support again this year to raise money for Children’s Cancer Research so one day there will be no more cancer.
Can’t wait for the 2021 Challenge to begin! I’m already registered for my 7th Challenge and once again will be recruiting riders for my Team “WILLjack Power”! Let’s get out and ride some miles in 2021 and together we can KICK SOME CANCER BUTT!!!!
