    8 Oct 2021

We are now 8 days post 2021 Great Cycle Challenge and here are some interesting stats from the month of September. All made possible by folks who see the challenge and help riders, like myself, make a difference!

I can never say it enough - I am truly BLESSED to have the support of amazing folks such as each of you and I can never say THANK YOU enough for your help in helping to find a cure for not only childhood cancer but cancer in general. You are a Rockstar in your own right!

100 kids under 5 years old took on the challenge to kick cancers' butt for other kids.

The average ride distance was 14.5 miles.

Collective miles ridden would lap the circumference of the earth 176 times!

Over 194,896 donations have been made to fight kids' cancer!

51 riders pedaled over 1,200 miles for their challenge.

Team Joe Strong, a team of 127 riders, rode an incredible 29,992 miles and raised $156,686 to fight kids' cancer. Amazing!

The leaderboards have been viewed 45,767 times.

35 riders raised over $10,000 to fight kids' cancer, becoming challenge All-Stars.

Tom Schultz rode 202 miles and raised an incredible $7500 for his close friend Pat who passed away in September 2020.

80,975 individual rides were completed throughout September.

Together, riders were in the saddle for the equivalent of 13,293 days, 3 hours and 16 minutes.

Over the 6 years of GCC, riders rode 25,647,476 miles and raised $52,524,379 to fight kids' cancer!

  • Mission Accomplished!
    25 Sep 2021

Well the riding part of it anyway with 7 extra miles to spare! I'll continue to do more fundraising. I've met my original goal and changed up the number a little bit higher.

Took advantage of our weather and rode the middle of Skagit County today first heading north and then to the south through the farm fields.

Thank you again for your support. I cannot express how Blessed I am to have each of backing up my efforts but THANK YOU!

This is a little victory dance......

  • Friday - September 24, 2021 - 35 Miles Left to Go!
    25 Sep 2021

I've spent this past week taking advantage of every day with sunshine even if it starts out a little bit chilly in the morning. Tomorrow I will hit my riding goal a day before we are to get rain here in the PNW (gasp - rain - say it isn't so).

I want to thank everyone for their support of my efforts. You truly are a Blessing to the kids and to myself. So THANK YOU!

Tomorrow will be my shortest ride this week. 35 miles. But, like I've said before - racking up 35 miles here in the valley that we live in means going up one road and back down the next and then repeat with the next set of roads! But it's all good. One day I will figure out what the one crop is that I can't seem to figure out what it is. The corn is being harvested, potatoes are being harvested and the fruit trees seem to have bumper crops this year.

I happened to come upon a heron heading towards the refineries today. If you know herons, they don't like having their pictures taken but I caught a great picture of this one and with Padilla Bay and Mount Baker in the background.

Thank you again for your support. The fundraising link typically is live until the end of the month following the ride. If you feel led to share it, I would be most appreciative.

  • 11 More Days to Go and 237 Miles Left
    19 Sep 2021

I haven't written any updates for a while so here goes. I looked at how many miles I rode this last week and it made me stop and ponder. What if I rode that many miles every week? Ok - that won't happen but 189 miles just this last week!

Yesterday I rode hoping that I wouldn't get rained on. I did receive a sprinkling but nothing significant. I just pedaled harder!

I am also involved in a "scavenger hunt" with a women's offroad group so it was a day to complete one of the first challenges - finding a sunflower and taking a picture of my ride with the sunflower in the background. Sunflowers are almost gone here in the PNW, especially after the big winds we had a couple of days ago. I almost had the picture right but forgot to include tires and wheels so went back later in the afternoon and did that activity the correct way.

I cannot thank each of you enough for your support of my efforts. It means a lot and I'm so close to my fundraising goal.

If you feel so led I would be honored if you would share my fundraising link with others. But there's no coercion to do so at all on my part.

I just appreciate each of you so much.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support and look forward to making you proud that you supported my efforts!

Here's to a successful 2021 Great Cycle Challenge!

  • Gearing Up for Riding in September
    26 May 2021

Time to start gearing up for the ride in September as it's just around the corner.

Barring any wildfire bad air this year I will complete my miles as planned unlike last year. I'm riding 601 miles again this year as it's totally doable.

Please consider supporting my ride. I would LOVE to be able to blow through my fundraising goal.
