I'm Riding For

Gavin

Gavin came down with cancer at 16. It was very invasive. He had 3 surgeries and rounds of Chemo. He was a fighter and never let a moment get him down. His attitude and strength carried his own family thru the ordeal. He would not allow grace in his school work and graduated alpha grad. He is in remission now and lives a happy life never reflecting all he lost in the disease. He will be attending the University of Michigan late in summer. Gavin has taught his mother and carried me thru he terrible ordeal.

My Story

3 Jun 2018

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

  • 200 miles
    21 Jun 2018

Today was the 200 mile marker for me. I am amazed and humbled by the donations that have been made thru out this nation. As I ride I think of all the research that can be done with the donations that have been generously given. Also as I ride I feel a connection to all the other riders who I will most likely never meet. Thank you to all that have supported me. I have 100 miles to go.

  • The beginning
    8 Jun 2018

Gavin was 16 in the year of 2016. He was enjoying life being a councilor at a Boy Scout camp. I dropped him off on day. He was to be away for the summer. The next morning I woke up and he was standing in my bedroom. I was alarmed and asked him why he was home. A boy who also was 16 was in his troop and just lost his life to cancer. The boys at camp were brought back for his memorial service . I was devastated I watched Gavin leave my room. I thought how horrible this was for a family and thankful I had a 16 year old son who was healthy. Little did I know that in 2 short weeks I would find out my own son had cancer. I will share his story this month while we all through the nation are riding to research and fight childhood cancer. I’ll share it thru my eyes and in the story you will get to know a very great child that was going to fight the fight and get past it. You will hear the ups and downs and also hopefully see how others played a major role in helping Gavin and our family. You will see that no one fights cancer alone. There is so much others can do to show support and help the family

  • Day 4
    4 Jun 2018

As I rode my bike the short distant home from my Inn my mind was heavy on childhood cancer. I pondered if I should share my son’s journey. Since it is his story I began to think that it goes way beyond just his cancer. We had so much support from our town , friends, neighbors and family. I arrived home just in time to get the dreaded call from his oncologist. It is time for his 3 month checkup which requires blood tests , cat scan and ultrasound. In the midst of this call I decided that maybe I should slowly share my sons walk. We are a private family. But I thought further ahead and maybe our story can help at least one other person. I will take that step and share as this month goes on. Thank you so much for all the support
