Mission accomplished: 300 miles down!

I just wrapped up my very last outdoor ride for this year's Great Cycle Challenge, and what a way to close the chapter! I crushed a 30-mile evening ride, capped off by a truly spectacular sunset at Glacial Park.

Honestly, this September has been an absolute blast. I spent a grand total of 22 hours in the bike saddle this month, and every single ride was an adventure of its own. If I had to pick a favorite, riding in Chicago's Bike the Drive definitely stands out as an unforgettable highlight!Now that the challenge is met, my trusty bike is officially moving onto the indoor trainer for the colder seasons until the outdoor trails are rideable again.

18-Sep-2026 Afternoon Ride with Zebras!!!

The herd took on the Des Plaines River Trail for an epic, cool, and overcast ride. Four of us kicked things off at the Half Day Forest Preserve near Lincolnshire and just kept rolling!

Our journey had a bit of everything.

A perfect pit stop at the lovely Esper Petersen Park gazebo in Gurnee.

Cruising all the way up to Russell Road right by the Wisconsin border before turning back.

An extra loop around beautiful Sterling Lake.

Winding through the McArthur Woods Forest Preserve.

Dodging underpasses and conquering all the scenic bridges crossing the river!

Fifty-one miles later, we made it back to where it all began. That's 260 miles folded in so far, with just 40 more miles to go!

Squeezed in a 31 mile ride this evening. The breeze was cold and wet. It was an enjoyable time. Looking forward to a group ride with my colleagues in the Des Plaines River Trail tomorrow afternoon.

It was a spectacular ride at the break of dawn. It was cold but the scenery was beautiful. I am half way through my goal and looking forward to finishing it soon.
