    1 Oct 2022

Okay, this was the last day and I had six miles to go. But just riding six miles did not seem sufficient. I needed something bigger to close out the month.

If you are a biker or from around the Bloomington area you may be familiar with the Hilly Hundred. It is called that for a reason. And one of the biggest reasons comes on day two of the Hilly. It goes my the name of Mt. Tabor. It is the biggest hill the Hilly has to offer, with a grade of between 20 and 22 percent. It is a challenge. I decided that I was going to ride up Mt. Tabor to finish off the Great Cycle Challenge. Reaching the summit would be somewhat symbolic of Lucas and Samuel reaching the summit of their battle with Cancer and being cancer free.

Well, that hill is a bear. I got up in and then collapsed in Andy's front yard. Andy is a German Shepard. He is also very sweet. We became fast friends. But you know, I am not riding for one. I am riding for two. So just once up Mt. Tabor didn't not seem adequate. So I did a little more riding and hit that hill again. Now, I can say that the first trip up was for Samuel (first only because he has been fighting longer) and the second was for Lucas. In total I rode 16 miles today, bringing my one month total to 1,010 miles. The ride is now over but you still have a week to be able to get in any of those last minute donations.

Lastly, although I was riding for Lucas and Samuel there are so many others who have been touched by cancer. There are those you have been diagnosed and beat cancer back into remission or eradication (Wyonne, Dave, Mark, C.G. and so many others) There are those in the midst of their battle right now (John, Ray and Anne amongst others) and finally those who fought valiantly and lost their battle (Mom, Dad, Izzy and so many others we have seen on these pages) I pray for them every day.

I cannot begin to adequately express my thanks for all of you for all that you have done to help give all children a chance to live a normal life, free of cancer. I will be forever in your debt.

  • This is it!
    30 Sep 2022

22 miles last night leaves me 6 miles to go with this being the last day. Sure hope I can find time to get in a ride today! 😅

Anyone interested in matching me a dollar for each mile on this last day? It will be at least 6 but no more than 20. Hoping I can pull off a little something special this evening. We'll see!

  • End of the week push
    26 Sep 2022

Well as of this morning there were six days left to ride and I had 105 miles to reach my goal of 1,000. Due to family obligations, there are now 5 days left to ride and I have 105 miles left to reach my goal. I may lose out on two of those days due to family and work obligations which takes me to three days. That means 35 miles per day for those three days. Knowing that I am riding for Lucas and Samuel, failure is NOT an option. But I could use a little encouragement. Round numbers encourage me. 27,000 even sounds really good, but how does 30 thousand sound!!!

If you know anyone who has been thinking about donating, now is the time. I will continue to ride until I accomplish what I told Lucas and Samuel I would do. Would love to be motivated by seeing that we are not yet done with that donation number.

    What do you say???
