Grabbing miles on the Virginia Capital Trail

The ride will be on the Virginia Capital Trail (https://www.virginiacapitaltrail.org/) a dedicated multi-use trail connecting Richmond and Williamsburg along the beautiful and historic Route 5 corridor. Participants can ride as far as they want. Some may do 10 miles, some 30 but we will start/end about the same time. Come out, support your team and get your miles in!
The start/end will be at Dorey Park. We will gather in the parking log near the dog park before the start time and promptly begin at 10am. Dorey has a 0.4 mile connector trail that begins near Dorey’s dog park and passes near the disc golf course leading to the Virginia Capital Trail. This will give riders easy access to restrooms.
While there are convenience stores, and restrooms along the route, this is a self-paced , out-and-back ride and does not have sag wagon support. Please have your bike in good order and bring water/food to keep you fueled and hydrated.

The rain indeed held off for the fearless five who showed up for our ride this morning. Mandy (Amanda Scanion) left promptly at 10, but the rest of us departed by about 10:10 am. The Park was very busy with Varina Day and the Farmers' Market, but the Virginia Capital Trail was not overly crowded. We had one injury and less riders than anticipated but we enjoyed meeting other GCC folks and riding on a beautiful morning.

Tomorrow is the big day. Our first group ride for the 2018 Great Cycle Challenge. We will have water and sports drink to fill or refill your water bottles. Depending on which source you look at we may have rain tomorrow before we end our ride. I am going to believe the Accuweather which has the storms starting later in the afternoon. I'll be there rain or shine. See you tomorrow at 9:45a!

I got an automated email saying our ride was tomorrow. Not sure how that happened, but wanted to assure everyone planning to ride that it is still on Saturday, June 2nd. Hope you are all having a great week. Looks like there could be some rain on Saturday, but hopefully it will hold off until we're done.

Only a few days left until we have our Group Ride on the Virginia Capital Trail to start the Great Cycle Challenge. I'll be at the parking lot across from the the dog park in Dorey Park by 9:45a. I drive a gray Camry.
Looking forward to seeing some Molina folks and meeting some other motivated GCC fundraisers too.

This is a very low-key & informal event. All you need a bike in good shape, show up, find some people who want to ride at the speed or distance you want to do and ride.
There is no "support" on this ride. No mechanic on hand. No formal check in, but I'll be at the start welcoming everyone.
