My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Arden

I am surprised at the effort this year is requiring. I did not anticipate how much harder this was going to be. So far I have been able to doge the storms and complete my rides. I am loving all the baby animals that I am seeing these days. But that also makes me think about those three springs that we basically spent in the hospital, and how often I just wanted to take Mary out to see all the new life. She so loved her calves and as I ride by the pastures I like to think that Mary gets to check in on the new calf crop every day now.

This is Mary's Memorial outside of her school next to the track where I loved to watch her run. She had incredible ability to do what must be done. When she was in 8th grade she was running the Two mile for the varsity team. She developed shin splints that went on to stress fractures. But she would not quit she felt she still had something to give to her team. So she has.

The ride began today. The cycle challenge over the last three years has done so much for me. people focus on my riding but I could not do it without the help of my family especially my wife Patti who puts up with a lot during this month,

This is my fourth year of riding and in the past so many of you have been so generous in supporting me in this cause. Everyday 42 children are diagnosed with cancer unfortunately 38 children die. Although there have been some amazing advances from when Mary was diagnosed, there is obviously still a lot of work to be done. In the past I have chosen a symbol from Mary,s battle to carry me forward. This year I have collected four of the wristlets that Mary wore throughout her fight against cancer. I am going to try to upload a picture.

In my ride today I came on a pasture that had about 20 geese in it. However the grass has grown so much that all you could see was about a third of their necks and heads moving about in the grass they looked like submarines with their periscopes up.
