My Story

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Jeffery

    25 Sep 2020

So, I had coordinated it today with our local television station to do an interview with me when I reached the 1,000 mile mark for the Great Cycle Challenge. Elena Barilla was great to work with and was very enthusiastic about doing this story. You can look for the interview to air today at 5:30 on News Channel 5, WPTZ in Plattsburgh NY.

This my sister, Heather Morrison, and I with a banner to celebrate that milestone!!

  • Lillian's Brother With the Hero's Jersey
    22 Sep 2020

Once again this year, we have raised enough money to have earned the Hero's jersey. Just as I had done last year, and I will continue to do for every year we reach this milestone, I have sent the jersey to Lillian's brother in her memory. Here is Christian proudly wearing the jersey with a photo of his sister. Precious!!!

The true hero's are the families that must endure the treatments and loss created by this disease. All of the sponsors are my hero's too!!!

  • #GCCUSA Ride 19 - Drafting Doug Again
    22 Sep 2020

Another great ride with Doug today! It was to be an easy ride, but ended up at 18 mph average when Doug and I finished the 1st 36 miles together. At least the drafting helped to conserve enough energy for me to have a final total of 70.5 miles. I'm just over 100 miles away from the 1,000 miles that Richard Bannon challenged me to do. After that, a much needed break!

    16 Sep 2020

I should be on air to promote the #GREATCYCLECHALLENGE Thursday morning around 9:30 with Amanda Dagley from 106.3 Plattsburgh NY's local radio station.

Even if you don't catch the interview, you should tune into this station. The music mix is fantastic and they'll become your go to radio station.

  • #GCCUSA Ride 13 - I Got A Pull!! Thanks Doug!!
    14 Sep 2020

Had a great ride today when Doug and I finally hooked up together. The winds were pretty strong out of the northwest, but Doug was there to pull me along to give me some drafting relief and some good company too!! Looking forward to our next ride together.

I'll be going over the 600 mile mark on my next day out which will be tomorrow. The daytime high temperatures are not all that high soon which will make for some pretty cool morning starts. I'll just dress warmer. Let's hope the wind is not there when the temps go down!!

  • Rest day-A Gentle Ride With Becky
    14 Sep 2020

I had a nice easy ride Saturday morning with my wonderful friend Becky. We had originally planned to do a scuba dive together with me taking a day off after 13 days in a row of riding, 11 of those counting toward the GCC. As the morning temperatures were quite cold (low 40's), we decided to postpone the dive. So even though I was to take a break, it was either dive or ride. So, to keep me somewhat contained and to force me to take a break, she joined me. BTW: She's a GCC participant too.

As the temperatures were warming up nicely, we made the ride short and added the scuba dive back into the days plans. All in all, it was a very pleasurable day.

The winds were ferocious again on Sunday with more rain in the forecast, so today was a true day off from the challenge. I'll be back at it tomorrow and expect to hit my miles pledged over the next 4 rides. However, I won't be stopping after I reach my goals. I'll continue to give this the best effort possible all through the month of September. More donations are still coming in and there is still time to give.

    Thank you!!!

  • Another Goal Achieved
    10 Sep 2020

Just a quick message before I head out on today's 40 mile journey. Thanks to all of you that have supported this wonderful cause!! Along with the GCC matching from yesterday, we have now cleared the $3,000 level!!! And this is all without yet securing a corporate sponsor. There is still time left to do more.

I figure rather than ride into the wind this morning and allowing it to help me on the way back, I'm headed to the mountain instead to grab some elevation along with my miles. It'll require about the same amount of effort. So...Dannemora Mtn, here I come!

    Thanks again everyone!!!!

  • On The Road Again Update
    9 Sep 2020

If you've been following any of my posts, you can tell I've been a little busy with this years challenge. All of my rides, except for one, have been solo rides so far. My friend and sponsor, Pat, came along for one of my rides. Anytime I have someone ride with me, I like to document the ride with a photo.

As I've upped my mileage goal to 700 miles this year, I've decided to go out daily and ride a minimum of 40 miles. As we never know what may be around the corner, this will give me a buffer should I need to take a day off. As of today I am well over half of my ride goal.

I do have some other riders that have indicated that they will join me on some of my rides, so be on the lookout for those updates with pics!!

Lastly, today is matching day, so please consider giving. Even 1 dollar today makes 2 and no amount is too small!! Thank you!!!

  • Quick update
    30 Aug 2020

With the challenge just 2 days away, I have been overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity that I have received so far. My childhood friend, as many of you, have been supporting me in this cause since my involvement 5 years ago. As I upped my mileage pledge this year in hopes of garnering a corporate sponsor, my friend also upped his pledge to me. I hope that this will set an example of how generous everyone has been and that a corporate sponsor will follow those leads.

Be on the lookout for more updates with more frequency as September is upon us!!!

  • Progress Update
    23 Aug 2020

I have been a little remiss in updating my page and the September challenge will be upon us soon!

I want to 1st thank the generous donors that have supported me, and this cause, to date. I am presently at $822.51, so very close to my half-way point of raising $2,000 for Children’s Cancer Research.

As some may know, this is my 5th year participating in an event that I hold so dear. Each year I have been blessed with donations that have exceeded my prior years. In an effort to do the same this year, I have been out dropping off information to try to garner a couple of corporate sponsors. I have also increased my mileage pledge to 700 miles for the month of September, so I sure hope for good weather, otherwise, I will still be out anyway to achieve my goal.

I have also reached out to our local media and have had my press release shared on the Sun Community News website: https://suncommunitynews.com/news/82663/plattsburgh-man-to-cycle-for-a-cause/

I will be coming out in their print edition for Aug. 29th. So far, I have not heard back from the other sources I have contacted.

So, while I have been remiss in giving an update on my progress toward this passionate goal, I have been active trying to solicit sponsors, both individual and corporate.

Please remember that any amount helps, and NO amount is too small. Should all my FB friends contribute just $5, I would raise well over $1,500. just in that response!

Please consider giving! Thank you in advance for your support!!

  • Opening post for GCC Fundraiser 2020
    22 Jul 2020

The GCC was postponed from June of this year to Sept due to COVID. While we are just over a month away from logging our rides, I am looking to start my fundraising goal.

COVID has impacted each of us in so many ways, to include emotional and financial stress. I have heard many stories of treatments and surgeries being postponed too! Imagine that you or your child is in this situation, fighting for life, when they haven't yet had the opportunity to enjoy life.

Resilience and fortitude are a must. While I expect financial difficulties will have a potential impact on this year’s fundraising efforts, please give any amount that you can in order to support this cause that I am so passionate about.

Last year, one of my friends had recognized that I had raised the bar for my mileage pledge. I am raising the bar again this year and am pledging to do not less than 700 miles. In addition to that effort, I hope to enlist 2 or more corporate sponsors to pledge $1.00 per mile calculated from mile one, but only if I achieve the 700-mile commitment!

With that, I am hopeful to once again achieve my monetary goal and provide the help that these kids so desperately need!! They need you!! Please give any support that you can!! Thank you!!
