  • Did not realize I did not update my page - so sorry - my bad!!!!!!!
    3 Jul 2017

    Hey all:

Well – we have reached the end of the month and the “official” end of The Great Cycle Challenge 2017. Now that I have had a chance to get my legs back (note that I did 147 miles in 4 days to get to the new upgraded goal) after a long visit to the whirlpool at the Y, I wanted to get this out to you all.

And the final results are (drum roll please):

    Original goal .............................. 350 miles

First upgraded goal ................... 400 miles (2 weeks into the event)

Second upgraded goal .............. 500 miles (approx 3 weeks into the event)

Third upgraded goal .................. 600 miles (four days to go with the final 100 miles dedicated to Callie - one of our poster kids for this years event)

and the final mileage total is ..........

    608.7 miles

This puts me at 20th for the state in mileage and 535th in the country. Not nearly as impressive as our fundraising but I will take it.

As for the all-important fundraising and the area where you all excelled:

    $9216.60

Your incredible generosity has put me (and kept me for well over a month) at First for Pennsylvania and ninth in the Country. You have helped me earn two cycling jersey’s, a listing on the All Stars page for having raised over $10,000.00 in my time with the Great Cycle Challenge, a posting on the Tribute Billboard in Time Square and even an article in one of the local on-line news sites. It really has been a banner year and I cannot thank you all enough for what you have helped me accomplish.

Please note that the Great Cycle Challenge website will remain open throughout July so people who could not (for whatever reason) finish their goals can continue through July and so the GCC can continue towards their ultimate fundraising goal of 4.5 million dollars. That being said – if you are still or know anyone that might be interested in Contributing to my ride – please go to https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/JeffreyKahn. There you can donate to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, see all of my very bizarre bike routes/rides, my multitude of updates and pictures/ cartoons and learn more about who and what we are all supporting.

So with that – I close this year’s ride with fond thoughts and sore muscles (and back side) and a big smile on my face  (actually looking forward to a Saturday off – it has been a while.). Thank you, thank you, thank you ever so much for your support. It means the world to so many and I do so greatly appreciate all you have done.

Take care, enjoy your summer and thank you once again. You are an absolutely incredible group of people!!!!

    Best regards

    28 Jun 2017

Yesterday's ride did not sync through Strava and did not transfer to the GCC App so I had to manually enter the ride.

Well - after a tremendous amount of technical aggravation (and this is coming from an Techie) - here is the record of yesterday's ride. I really dislike entering a ride manually without some evidence that I actually did it (feels like I am cheating).... so here ya go ;-)

Hopefully things will cooperate this evening and I can properly enter my miles......

  • LAST WEEK (Officially that is)!!!!!!
    26 Jun 2017

Hey all - just a quick note. First off - if y'all did not see - we have hit 4 Million Dollars raised thus far - Wow!!!!! And know that you all are a huge part of this. Absolutely incredible :-)

Last week saw my passing my first upgraded riding goal (400 miles) and achieving my Ultimate Medal in my little Olympic Challenge. This weekend was my first 80 mile weekend since I started riding again and saw me pass 450 miles - my Penultimate medal. I did increased my ride goal again to 500 miles and am 38 miles (and change) from that goal. Through the internet the progression from the Ultimate level is "ultimate," "penultimate," "antepenultimate," "preantepenultimate", 'suprapreantepenultimate' (and lets face it - this has to be true since it is on the Internet and you can't lie on the Internet ;-)...). So I have mapped it out

    Ultimate - 400 Miles (achieved)

    Penultimate - 450 miles (achieved)

Antepenultimate - 500 miles (oh soooo close)

    Preantepenultimate - 550 miles

    Suprapreantepenultimate - 600 miles

So yep - I am aiming for 600 miles - we will see just how far I can go. I have it mapped out for success - now just need everything to come together (weather, equipment, knees, etc.) to see it through.

So that being said - I once again thank you for your support and encouragement on this month long adventure. It has been quite a treat riding this year with so many people behind me and cheering me on. Thank you ever so much.

Please remember to continue to pass on information about my ride. Through your generosity we are sill firmly in First place in PA and Seventh in the country - so amazing. If you or others are still interested in donating - please go to https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/JeffreyKahn and donate there.

Thank you again for your support - it means the world to so many.

Until next time - when I announce the completion of my 600 mile trek... take care and have a great week.

    23 Jun 2017

In my enthusiasm to hit the roads (and beat the potential rain that my wife said would not come until later (she was right))... I forgot to turn on the GPS until about 1\2 way through my ride. So tonight's ride is split. 12.2 manually entered and 12.7 actually recorded. I did the same ride as Tuesday so at least I know the accurate milage.....

    22 Jun 2017

Hi all - just a note that we have just passed $9,000 raised this year alone :-) Absolutely amazing and you all are the reason for this :-) You all should be very proud of what you have helped accomplish.

There was an article posted yesterday in a local Doylestown Online Newspaper about the event and all - https://patch.com/pennsylvania/doylestown/doylestown-cyclist-pennsylvanias-top-cancer-fundraiser. I did not even know about it - it was shared with my wife on Facebook and she informed me as I was giving blood yesterday. Nice little surprise and honored to have been recognized.

I reached my Platinum Medal (in my little personal Olympic Challenge) on Tuesday with my 25 mile evening run meaning I have reached my initial pledge of 350 miles. I increased that to 400 a few weeks ago so I have 50 to go to get to my Ultimate medal which I pretty much expect to be well beyond by the end of this weekend. New goal - 500 miles by the end of the month :-) Keep the fingers crossed that the weather and equipment and "knees" cooperate to allow me to accomplish my new goal.

Thank you again for your amazing support with the GCC and CCRF and myself. You all have helped to make this an incredible event and I could not be more appreciative for everything you all have done. You're simply the (as my son used to say) BESTEST!!!!!!!!!

  • (-: 1/2 way through Challenge - 1/2 + towards my goal :-)
    16 Jun 2017

    Hey all -

Just a quick update while I have a few seconds....

We have reached the halfway point on the month long ride challenge and with a good solid couple of rides in this week - I have made it to 250 miles plus. In my little Olympic Challenge - I have made it to the Silver Medal - and plans are to have Gold down this weekend...

With the Great Cycle Challenge Matching Program and the ARRIS Employee matching program - we have passed my 16TH fundraising level and are very close to the 17TH increase of $9,000.00. And I can't remember if I passed this info on to you all or not - but in talking with the team from GCC/CCRF - each dollar raised when combined with grants and other programs available to the doctors becomes approx. 18$ - so you can imagine just how wonderful your gifts truly are.

We are still proudly sitting in First place in PA and Seventh in the Country - absolutely AMAZING!!!! I really do appreciate all of your support for the Great Cycle Challenge and everyone involved. It is because of people like you that this event is such a success.

The financial goal set by the GCC was 4 million (and of course - beyond) - well we are sitting at 3,600,000 dollars plus and still have got two weeks to go - so to borrow a line I used a while back - I THINK WE GOT THIS :-) !!!!!!!!

Again - I greatly appreciate all of your support with this event.... you all are doing a wonderful thing here and there are so many kids that will benefit from your gifts. Y'all should be very happy!!!!!

Have a terrific weekend ... JK

(P.S. - Sorry about the pic - this was the closest odometer reading I could get to my actual mileage - but hey - cool pic anyway :-)... )

  • We're halfway there!!!!!!
    12 Jun 2017

    Good morning all:

Just a quick update on the ride and all. While I am not quite as far as I was hoping to be - I am well ahead of my planned schedule and am over halfway to my goal of 400 miles. In my little Olympic challenge, I have obtained my Bronze medal - its a start. Ran into some trouble with the bike yesterday that will need to be resolved this evening to get me on my way again soon. But all in all - these past couple of weekends have seen some incredible rides including as I said before - my first half century ride in several decades.

This week looks to be a good one for some nice evening rides and projections are for a wonderful weekend so looking to be well on my way to completing at least the Gold medal part of my challenge. Then on to the Ultimate medal of 400 miles and beyond - who knows.

Thank you again for your support, you can see we are still number one in PA and top three in the country - very impressive. And that is all because of you and your incredible generosity and support. I would not be here without all of you and I appreciate it.

Note that this Wednesday is a special day - it is KICK CANCER'S BUTT DAY with some big things going on. As even I am unaware of all that is happening - please stay tuned to see what's going on. With the group - you never know what they are up to now... but always something fun and great for these kids...

Hi all - just a note - we are 5$ away from my current fundraising goal of $7500.00. So incredible but even better is that we have broken the $9,000.00 mark for this event. Just so appreciative for everyone's support and to ARRIS for their matching program that is helping to add to the totals......

    <<<<<<<<

Just a little note that I have been keeping in the background - that puts us just about $500.00 before becoming All Stars - having raised $10,000.00 or more for the event. There are only 12 people on that list right now - how incredible it would be to become number 13 :-)

  • Quick weekend update
    5 Jun 2017

Hi All - First off - the event hit $2,000,000 raised this weekend - quite an impressive amount. As usual - thank you so very much for adding to that awesome total....

Now for the rides - well Saturday I completed my first half century ride in several decades (yes - it has been that long). 52.2 miles - thrilled to have accomplished it and I won't lie - thrilled that is was over. Long 4 1/2 hours and really sore after it was over. Sunday unfortunately saw the complete opposite - due to soreness and cold/drizzly weather (and just an overall lack of overall excitement) I rode a low and slow 28 miles. But since these kids don't quit on their battles I felt it was my mission to not quit (for the day) on my pledged miles (and more).

I have officially updated my goal to 400 miles as that is what I keep saying I am shooting for. So I happy to say that I am just a little over a quarter of the way there - 300 more miles to roll.....

Thank you again for your support and keep positive thoughts that this lousy weather breaks and good biking weather makes another appearance soon (oh how I dislike riding in the cold...)

    Have a great day all.....

    2 Jun 2017

Well - first ride is in the books and it is an estimated ride. Somehow in the hustle and bustle and overall excitement to hit the roads - I managed the stop the Strava GPS service and it did not record my ride. I recreated the ride on the MapMyRide app and then scaled back a little bit. Not even going to try to estimate speed as once I saw the ride did not record - it kind of took the winds out of the sails. See below for map of my ride... will do better when I ride tomorrow :-)

    1 Jun 2017

    Greetings all -

Just a quick note that TODAY is the DAY. That infamous Day 1 of a challenging month of riding to benefit and support these brave kids and their families as they battle this horrific disease. Know that all those we are supporting will be riding with me each day I go out (fortunately they will be with me figuratively as I don't think my bike could support everyone ;-) ...) and they will inspire me to successfully complete my ambitious goal.

Thank you to everyone for your amazing support for this event and ultimately these kids. You can see our incredible ranking on this page and as stated many time - that is all because of you and your awesome generosity. Thank you just does not seem to be enough but that will have to do (for now at least).

Remember to visit this page often throughout the month to keep track of my progress - something tells me that there will be some wet rides in my future as June is supposed to be wetter than normal but we will be successful in our attempts.

I hope everyone has a wonderful June and fabulous spring/summer. Until the next update - take care and thank you so very much once again.....

  • The New Ride .......
    24 Apr 2017

Hey all - went out on the new Fuji Hybrid (aka Frieda) this weekend for a 24 mile workout ride. New bike is fantastic and with the Trek Street bike (aka Tracy) will enable me to go just about anywhere. Great addition to my attempt at my Ultimate Goal of 400 miles this June. Right now your sponsorship has kept me in First Place in Pennsylvania but we have slipped a bit in the national count - we are currently in 7th - still incredibly impressive. Thank you again - I could not do this without all of you. Please continue to spread the word and if people want to sponsor - please just go to my page ( https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/JeffreyKahn ) and donate there. Every little bit helps towards a great cause and ultimately an even greater result :-)

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children’s Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

    Thank you.

    Jeffrey
