My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Jeff

My Challenge

  • That's a wrap!!!!!!
    30 Jun 2018

Hi there (apologize in advance - tad long winded again):

Well – June 30th is upon us and we have reached the end of the 2018 Great Cycle Challenge. This year saw me beating my 2017 goals by 200 miles – final mileage for the month of June was 808 miles (yes – there’s that 8 again). Unfortunately, my top goal for this year’s ride was 1,000 miles so a little disappointed I was not able to reach that but I guess we now know my goal for 2019. This year’s stats:

    • Total Rides – 22 rides

    • Average Ride – 38.4 miles (rides from 23 to 63 miles)

    • Average speed per ride – a slow 12.30 mph

    • Average climb per ride – 1464 feet

Another little challenge to myself this year – I pulled the heights of a numerous mountains throughout the solar system and totaled my climbs to see how many I could make it to the top of (I try all sorts of crazy things to stay motivated). Out of a total of 66 mountains - I made it to the top of Mt. Everest (number 55 on the list) with a total combined climb of 30,744 feet. Not too bad if I do say so myself. I even made it 0.0024% of the way to the moon 😉

As for our fundraising efforts, through your incredible generosity we raised $11, 017.17 for continued research to cure Kids Cancer – absolutely insane. Our efforts have us ranked #1 in Pennsylvania (2nd year in a row) and #8 in the Country. Note also that in the three years that we have been riding with the Great Cycle Challenge – we have raised almost $22,500.00 (#11 on the All Time Fundraisers list). Really could not be more honored by your support for this event and these kids and their families. It means so very much to those involved – THANK YOU so very very much. A quick aside here - as a whole the Great Cycle Challenge riders and supporters have raised almost 6.500.000 dollars and have ridden over 3,500.000 miles – told you 2018 was going to be EPIC.

Please remember that the Great Cycle Challenge site will remain open for the month of July for people who could not complete their rides (injury, weather, etc,) so you can continue to donate. Please go to (and share this page if you know of others who might be interested)

    https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/JeffreyKahn

From there you can learn more about the Great Cycle Challenge, the Children’s Cancer Research Fund and the incredible things these organizations do. Also learn more about the kids we are supporting, the other 50,000 plus riders and the crazy things they are doing for this ride and of course – donate to this great cause.

So with that – we bring the 2018 Great Cycle Challenge to a close. Now - after a quick rest – I begin preparations for the Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life event in August (along with the #ARRIS Horsham team of dedicated cyclists), the Bicycling Magazine Fall Classic in September and my only “cold” weather event – the Doylestown Bike Works Cranksgiving Food Drive in November (weekend before Thanksgiving). And I guess we shall see what other craziness I can find along the way.

Thank you again for your incredible generosity and support for the 2018 Great Cycle Challenge. You all are simply the BEST!!!

    Best regards,

    Jeff Kahn

  • Just another little update...
    25 Apr 2018

Hey all - am scaling back on my full court push for the Great Cycle Challenge for just a little while - trying to cut down on the confusion that is being cause by promoting some Cystic Fibrosis Events (including a bike event) at ARRIS. Believe me - you all will hear more from me before this is over.

Training is off to a slow start with weather and some other issue but I am over 100 miles into training with many many more on the way. Can I just say - boo hiss April Showers :-)

You all are, once again, knocking it out of the park in terms of fund raising. We currently sit in 1st place across the board. I again could not be happier with your support of this event and more importantly these children who deserve so much better than the hand they have been dealt. We recently lost Callie (GCC Ambassador for 2017 and 18) and as upsetting and depressing as that has been for the whole GCC community - it has given us the resolve to make the 2018 event better than ever. With your support - we can make this happen.

Remember to keep sharing the news about this event and sharing this website so other can learn more about the Great Cycle Challenge, the Children's Cancer Research Fund and these incredible kids. They can also make a donation to the cause and maybe even join the event as a rider. The Sky's the Limit in terms of how you all want to support us.

Thank you again for your incredible support and encouragement. I have an amazing group of family, friends and coworker and I cannot express my gratitude enough for all you have done.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Just a little history
    6 Apr 2018

Hey All – have not updated the page for awhile so figured it was time. Gotta love PA weather – couple of rides in and snow / rain in April have managed to hold up the works once again. But we will get there and come June – it 600 miles plus or bust!!!!!

A bunch of people wanted to know how I came to be part of this event, did I have a child with cancer or what was the catalyst. Well – really was quite by accident. My wife started posting about this event just to get the word out about it. I saw it once and thought it was cool but did not go any further. Later I saw it again and did some research and thought this might be something to pursue – but again I did not go any further. A bit later I looked into the event again and decided to take the plunge.

Now three years into the event – I am hooked (actually that happened during the first year) and I so look forward to this each year. You cannot help but love and admire these children in their fight against this disease. The families are so dedicated and it is such a feel-good event that you can’t help but just go crazy when you become involved.

First year I pledged 150 miles thinking there was no way to get that done between family and work and everything. Managed 308 miles 😊 Was thinking that was just terrific. Second year – I figured I did 300 last year so will pledge 350 miles. Did 608 (get the idea that 8 are something special to me – happens to be my lucky number) miles and was over the moon with my mileage and financial accomplishments (thanks for you all). This year – we figured I did 600 last year so – yep – pledged 600 for this year and we will see where we end up.

But for as much as I love this event – it is all of you that make this so incredible. Your generosity and support to not only me but to an incredible group of kids and their families in truly inspiring and, as I have said, I am honored that you have joined with me to support this cause.

Thank you everyone ever so much for your continued support of the Great Cycle Challenge…

    19 Mar 2018

Sorry for the delayed St. Patrick's day message - did not have a chance to get it out over the weekend. Hope it was a good day for you all....

Thanks to your continued generosity, we have broken the $1,000 mark - maintaining that number 1 status on PA and now sitting at number 8 in the US.

Thank you again - ever so much for all of us involved in the GCC.... as stated several times - this means the world to so many.

NOW.... lets get rid of this winter weather - I need to ride to reach those lofty goals I have set :-)

    Happy Belated Saint Patty's day
