My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Linda

  • Final Update
    4 Aug 2019

I wanted to give you one final update on how the Great Cycle Challenge finished up for 2019! I am so proud to have participated in this and it pushed me to do more than I would have done otherwise in the month of June!

    There were 80,348 riders

    Who rode 5,271,758 mi

And raised $8,490,984 as of July 26th

None of this would have been possible without the help of the supporters of each and every rider who supported their individual rider. ( know, bad grammar)

I finished the challenge - including miles ridden in July having ridden 568 miles and raised $6,705!

I want to thank you for helping me surpass my goal!

The foundation has kept the donation site open until the end of August. I would be humbled and honored if you would be willing to share my link with your friends and family and help push the fundraising goal even higher and help put an end to not only childhood cancer but cancer in general. We lost another friend to cancer early this morning.

To share, you can send this link: https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/LindaRyan

Thank you to each of you again for supporting my efforts, it means a lot ot me and I am looking forward to riding again next year!

  • Finished Strong!
    30 Jun 2019

Thank you again for supporting my participating in the Great Cycle Challenge. It was the first time I've ever done anything like it but I'm proud of what I've accomplished. I couldn't have helped make difference in the lives of kids without you though and I can never say thank you enough.

I initially pledged to ride 300 miles during the month of June. When our plans changed I upped that to 400 miles. I am proud to say that after today's ride, I have 455 miles under my belt. If you know me that's huge.

I initially set a lofty fundraising goal of $5,000 and again, with your help, I hit that number and a little bit more. I upped that number and raised another $1500 on top of that.

So, I can never say it enough times but THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

The kids are a huge inspiration for me but your generosity is also an inspiration. I'll be back again next year!

There is still time to donate and if you're willing I would be most grateful and humbled if you would pass along the link to my page. I think they're going to leave it open for a few days past today. The link to my page is: https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/LindaRyan

  • On to the End of the Finish Line!
    27 Jun 2019

I thought I would give you an update on this weeks happenings. I am hoping to still get in at least one more ride in order to donate the miles to another rider who had to stop riding because of health issues.

The Challenge is in the last 4 days and I am humbled by the support that I've received. You truly are the best of the best and your support for helping me in my quest to help kids is beyond humbling. I am grateful for the support and look forward to upping my game next year when the Challenge comes around again.

Feel free to share the link to my page. You'll hopefully see one if not two more rides by the end of the weekend. I could not have made it as far as I have without the reminder to myself that I'm doing this for kids who deserve a fair start in life free of cancer. I could have not have made it this far without your help.

Finally, I was pleasantly surprised when I received a personal call from the CEO of the Children's Cancer Research Fund this morning thanking me for my participation and that he is in awe of the fundraising efforts taking into account it being my rookie year. I'm glad I was sitting down for that call. It's not every day that the head of a foundation calls personally to thank you for your work.

Thank you again for your support and prayers. Please pray that once and for all we put and end to not only childhood cancer but cancer in general. It's a scourge on our families and communities. We ALL know someone who has been touched by the results of cancer.

    God Bless You!

  • Across the Riding Finish Line!
    23 Jun 2019

Yesterday I started out the day with 57 miles left to ride. I was going to break that into two 30ish mile rides but then when I started heading to Anacortes I figured I would just ride the entire 57 miles in one day and that's exactly what I ended up doing and crossing the riding "finish line" with and extra 3 miles above my goal. 400 miles in three weeks!

I want to thank you for your support towards my fundraising goal. With the next week to focus on fundraising and crossing the "finish line" in that aspect of the Great Cycle Challenge 2019, I would like to ask you to share the link to my page: https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/LindaRyan

I would love to at a minimum meet my newer fundraising goal and I'm not that far off the mark. Those of you who know me know that I would love to see that number even higher than the goal.

Thinking about the kids when I rode helped keep me going but also the generosity of a group of folks that had confidence in me to complete the ride and for that I say a giant THANK YOU!! for your support!

God Bless You in the coming year and look for me next year to do this again!

  • Down to the Last Bit of Fundraising
    20 Jun 2019

I want to thank each and every one of you for your support in this journey to #kickcancerinthebutt. I am now $395 shy of my reset goal of $6,000. I would like to ask you to share this message and my link. I will be at or less than 100 miles after tomorrow's ride. It would be fantastic to be at or beyond the fundraising goal as well!

  • 11 Days to Go!
    19 Jun 2019

As of tomorrow, Wednesday, June 19, there are just 11 days left to complete my 400 mile pledge. Will I accomplish it? But of course! Today was a ride of just over 34 miles (roundtrip around some blocks! HA) putting me at a total as of today of 268 miles with 132 left. Piece of Cake! After my ride this Thursday I will have less than 100 miles left and less than $400 left of fundraising. I would love to at a minimum meet that goal and better yet blow right through it. It's time to #kickcancersbutt for the kids and for everyone.

I want to THANK YOU again for supporting my efforts. It means a lot and I'm proud of what I'm accomplishing! But I couldn't do it without the support that I've received and for that I am forever grateful.

    God Bless You!

  • Kick Cancer In the Butt Day Results!
    13 Jun 2019

Yesterday was a phenomenal day for the entire Great Cycle Challenge riders! THANK YOU to everyone that has donated to help support my efforts. With the donations made yesterday and the match made available my initial goal was surpassed by just over $200!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Yesterday there was the opportunity to have donations matched up to $900,000 and the lot of us blew past that number y $450,056 total donations. With that said, they wanted to make sure that all donations yesterday were matched so they proportioned them out with the following calculation:

$900,000 / $1,350,056 = 66.66% - so we've matched 66.66% of the total you raised on Kick Cancer's Butt Day and we have added this to your fundraising page as a single donation titled 'Kick Cancer's Butt Day Matched Donation'.

None of this would be possible (outside of the riding) without every single one of my supporters and to that I am ever greatful. Onwards and upwards, I've upped my goal since there are just over two weeks left in the month. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I appreciate you more than words can ever convey.

  • Riding Onward!!!
    8 Jun 2019

Well, I've completed 131ish miles in the first week! Today was almost 31 miles according to Strava (32 and change according to the bike computer) around Skagit Valley. What started out as a trip to Hobby Lobby ended up being a ride around the valley with a stop at Snow Goose Produce for one of their immodest ice cream cones. Trust me when I say that 1 scoop is more than enough for one person! Weather turned out great and it helped me to work a little bit more on my farmer tan!!! Oh and …..P.S. hard to believe but that was my first Snow Goose Ice Cream Cone in all the years we've lived in Skagit Valley. Hard to believe, but it's truth.
