My Story

12 Sep 2024

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

David

Labor day is over and beginning my challenge for 200 miles in September to fight childhood cancer.

It was a nice cool morning with light winds from the east. The river trail is open with no detours! I started at Phat Tire bicycle shop near Jenks and headed North. A few bikes and walkers but smooth sailing all the way. I crossed the river at Southwest Blvd and headed south along the west side trail which has been closed for so long. They have done a nice job with landscaping and access to the pedestrian bridge which will lead you back to “The Gathering Place” on the East side of the river. However, I continued south on the trail to Turkey Mountain. Warning: The hill up into the park is a real leg-killer! It is mercifully short but extremely steep. Grab the lowest gear you have for this one. Once you get through the park, it’s time for a long, fast downhill along 71st street, across the bridge and back on the east side of the river. Loop around the bridge underpass and continue south past the sand volleyball courts and, eventually, the River Spirit casino. Just a bit farther and I arrived back at my starting place, Phat Tire Bicycle shop. 21.1 miles total and a nice start to my challenge! No flats or mechanical problems. I’m off to a great start. 😁
