This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Our daughter spent the first year of her life living with cancer. She was diagnosed with a malignant rhabdoid tumor of the liver at only months old. Most people have never heard of that as well as many other types of childhood cancers (before her diagnosis, I had not), so I hope to not only raise funds for research and for family care, but to raise awareness.

The next year of her life was constant hospital trips, a quarantined lifestyle because the simplest sickness to us could have been life threatening to her. She missed the first year+ of childhood. Things that should never be seen as "normal" to any child, were to her. Weekly hospital trips were normal to her, spending nights in the hospital were normal to her, daily shots were normal to her, having a central line on her chest was normal to her. Surgeries were just a part of life. Constantly feeling sick was normal to her.

Thankfully, with the amazing care from the entire medical staff at Banner's Children Hospital in Mesa Arizona, and the incredible surgery done by, Dr. Van der Werf, she is a survivor of childhood cancer.

Kids should be ENJOYING life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
