I'm Riding For

Thea Fladwood

This little girl is fighting so hard! I see her grandma's posts and it just breaks my heart! Then I think of ALL the families who are going through this same nightmare. I want to help researchers find better treatments and cures!

My Story

25 Jun 2026

My birthday was last week. The past couple of years, I have encouraged anyone, who might have supported a birthday charity fundraiser in my honor, to support me in the Great Cycle Challenge, which takes place in September.

This Is the eighth year that I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! Even though the challenge will happen in September, fundraising begins now. None of my summer miles count, but September is truly a challenge for me. I will, again, be babysitting full time by then and will need to be motivated to ride each evening! Age is also beginning to be a factor!!

Your support $$ is the main goal. By donating you support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer. With the cuts made at the federal level for such programs, it seems all the more vital to help raise funds. You also will keep me active when I undoubtedly would otherwise be sitting on the couch after my busy days with the kids!!

Please, support this effort by sponsoring me.

“Happy Independence Day, Beverly! I am in Indiana presently, celebrating with the Sprague family. They are such a nice family! I am in a lull between celebrations, checking email received notification of your generous donation to my bicycle challenge. THANK YOU, SO MUCH!! Perhaps we can get a biking day in together. I think I may even have Thursdays off in the fall! :) I'll be in touch!”

“Thank you, so much, Cheryl! Tomorrow I will hit the pavement strong! I am driving up to Manitowoc again to hit the Mariner's Trail. I will ride up to Two Rivers and meet my friend, Beverly, who lives there. Then we will travel north on the Rowley Trail, which you are likely familiar with. I hope to get about 30 miles in. That is not as many miles as I would like to get in, but that is about what that trail has to offer. It looks like a nice day in store, so maybe I will get a few more miles in when I get back to West Bend...or depending, upon my stamina, I could stop in Port Washington and ride the Interurban Trail for a few miles. The only issue there is that it starts with a BIG HILL. :) We'll see! I truly appreciate your donation, both to keep me motivated and ESPECIALLY for the cause! Thanks 1,000,000!!”

“Hey, Lindy!! Thank you for supporting the Great Cycle Challenge to raise money for childhood cancer research, again this year! You are very generous, and I am happy to pedal away to raise funds! I hope your summer was a good one and that you are doing well. I know you are looking forward to the beauty of WINTER! Who can blame you where you live and with those amazing dogs of yours. Here is Wisconsin, I am hoping for some great fall weather. That is my favorite season! I can still bike, hike and enjoy backyard fires with friends during those crisp fall days. Right now, the weather is disgustingly humid and too warm!! I am not a fan of this kind of summer, and it makes biking less enjoyable. Still, I plan to rock the mileage and am so thankful to those of you who support the cause with your generosity. THANKS, AGAIN!! :) Jackie”

“Dear Jim Hohl, since I do not recognize your name, I am guessing that you are the generous donor who supports "Kick Cancer's Butt Day!" Thank you so much for your donation(s)!! Just today, I surpassed my goal and this makes me so happy. It also keeps me motivated to reach my biking goal. I am over half way to my 200 mi goal. I know this is a modest goal compared to many, but I babysit during the days and need to get out on the bike after the kids get picked up, and the days are getting shorter!! It may be modest, but at 65 years old, I am also beginning to "feel my age." The donations and the cause keep me motivated to get out there and pedal away. Thanks again! I truly appreciate your generosity and fight for the cause!”

“Hey, Bob! Thank you so much for supporting me again in my Great Cycle Challenge. I am looking forward to getting my 200 miles in during September and I hope to reach my pledge goal (which I raised substantially from past years), too! I have been getting some miles under my belt so that I am readying to "hit the ground running" on September 1st. I will be having child-free this year, so I hope for some sunny Tuesdays where I can get lots of miles in! I hope you and Lisa are doing well. Perhaps we can get together later in Oct. Remind me via text if you have travel plans coming up. I will be at my sister's from Oct 1-12, as her 1st surgery did not take care of the cancer and she will undergo a complete mastectomy. I will go over to help out and then my other two sisters will join us for part of the following week. Thanks again! Give my best to Lisa!”

I'm trying to get out for at least a little ride each day/evening and plan to put on some big miles on Tuesdays, my day off this year. I have a friend whose 7-year-old granddaughter is fighting cancer right now. :( That makes this cause even more meaningful this year. Thanks, again! :) Jackie”

“Wow! Thank you for your support of this great cause, Penny! I sure appreciate it! Of course, the main goal is to raise funds to help find a cure for cancer, but whenever someone puts their money on the cause, I am re-energized to keep pedaling. Yesterday, when I was about to embark on the Interurban Trail, I was feeling low energy. I knew that there were people, like you, who have donated and that I had an obligation to fulfill. Naturally, once I got rolling, I found all sorts of interesting sights and sounds to enjoy! Thanks again for your generous support! I just received a new jersey from the Children's Cancer Research Fund for surpassing the $10,000 earnings. It only took me EIGHT YEARS! lol!”
