I'm Riding For
Caleb
I met Caleb a year ago as a twelve year old who was checking out our Boy Scout troop, and he decided to join. Since then I've gotten to know Caleb and his back story. When Caleb was 8 years old he was a star hockey player who started having unexplained headaches; when his family had him checked out, the doctors discovered a golf ball sized cancerous brain tumor and rushed him into surgery. After surgery, Caleb was in a coma for five weeks, then spent months in rehabilitation learning to eat, talk, walk, etc. He also underwent many rounds of radiation and chemotherapy. Today Caleb is a happy, healthy 13 year old working hard to earn his ranks with his eyes set on earning Eagle. He is a kind, helpful and patient young man who works very hard at everything he does. He's left with some coordination and information processing challenges from his surgery, but he is determined to not let that hold him back. I'm constantly amazed at his positive spirit in the face of what he's been through. I ride in these challenges to support research to help young people like Caleb survive and thrive after cancer. Much of Caleb's success is due to recent advances in cancer treatment, but that research needs funding to continue. Please donate what you can to help other young cancer patients like Caleb.
My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.
Jeff
