I'm Riding For
Rebecca JOY Flesch
"Carrying On" - One year her encouragement and congratulations to my ride included her saying, “Just keep going” and “Dad, you’re the sh$t”. You see, Rebecca JOY believed what we all do - kids should be living life, not fighting for it. Even as she fought cancer so bravely, herself, she KNEW this and continued to reach out to strangers to give support and encouragement (I have her writings and social media posts to prove it!).
My Story
If not us...who? And if not now...when?
That WHY will NEVER change. Yet, just before my FOURTH Great Cycle Challenge (GCC) in September 2025, our family began to experience the unimaginable.
And the WHY got BIGGER. PLEASE READ ON…
Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year with cancer in the US and 38 children die every week. Raising money for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, through the GCC, has been part of our family since 2021.
In late August of 2025, our 32-y/o daughter Rebecca JOY, was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. For the next 7 weeks, she fought tirelessly, with bravery and a “badass bitch” attitude and strength that was congruent with her life. Her humanness never wavered, making sure her aides and caregivers ate BEFORE SHE did and making sure they laughed WHEN she did - the most unselfish gesture we have ever seen. That experience made us commit to “carrying on” what she represents, both, as part of and after her transition in mid-October of 2025.
As I plan for this year’s ride, in September of 2026, I reflected back on 3 things that she personally made sure of contributing to every GCC ride I’ve taken and which I will be DEEPLY focused on this year. She continues to give ALL of us comforting signs and reminders of her presence:
> Talk to me - I still hear you
> I have never stopped cheering you on
> You are stronger than you realize.
2026 honors Rebecca JOY; her spirit = OUR PURPOSE. I know she will visit me during my rides: as a bird, yellow butterflies and flowers with 11:11 and 2:22 appearing on my smart watch - just as she does every day.
As she believed in, I am riding for ALL of those affected by cancer - helping them to receive lifesaving treatments and to ultimately find a cure.
Please support me by making a donation to give the children the brighter futures THEY deserve.
Your donation will change lives. Your support will honor Rebecca JOY.
Remember: None of us is stronger than all of us.
Thank you.
