My Story

6 Sep 2026

September 6, 2026: During this month of September, I will be once again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! This is my eighth year! Please support me with your donation. Here's an interesting question I've been recently asked:

Q: Does Children's Cancer Research Fund ever fund projects at University of Rochester or Golisano Children's Hospital in Rochester, NY?

Yes, the Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) absolutely funds projects at the University of Rochester.

As a national organization, CCRF does not confine its grants to one hospital; instead, it distributes money across the United States to institutions with promising childhood cancer studies. The University of Rochester is explicitly designated as one of their funded institutions.

Examples of Local Impact:

Emerging Scientist Award: CCRF awarded its prestigious Emerging Scientist Award—which provides $100,000 in seed funding—to Dr. Carol Fries Simpson at the University of Rochester. Her funded research focused on the genetic make-up of B-lymphoblastic lymphoma to help discover more targeted, less toxic treatments for children fighting the disease.

Golisano Children's Hospital Affiliation:

Because Golisano Children’s Hospital operates as the pediatric facility for the University of Rochester Medical Center, researchers and pediatric oncologists working out of Golisano directly benefit from these types of Children's Cancer Research Fund national grants and clinical trials.

If you are a Rochester local looking to give back, you can take comfort knowing that national donations to CCRF have historically supported local doctors in your area.
