I'm Riding For
Tammy Zeller Yergey
Updated for 2024! This photo was taken in 2017 when I was able to make it to Florida. She passed on 08/10/2020 of a rare Endocrine cancer. (Carcinoid / NET). Tammy and her husband (Dan), moved to Florida while she was waiting for a 5 organ transplant which never came. We grew up in the same neighborhood. Her dad was like a dad to myself and my siblings when we were kids. Tammy was loved by so many and had so much support. She is missed immensely by everyone who knew her. She was a fighter that's for sure. It's hard to believe you are gone. Love you my sis! I am also riding for myself. In November of 2022, I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Even though the survival rate is high, if caught early, its still scary to hear that you have the "C" word. Mine was caught early enough and hadn't spread. I was lucky. Everyone, please get the screening done!
My Story
About 10,470 children in the US under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2022. Childhood cancer rates have been rising slightly for the past few decades. Because of major treatment advances in recent decades, 85% of children with cancer now survive 5 years or more. Overall, this is a huge increase since the mid-1970s, when the 5-year survival rate was about 58%. Still, survival rates can vary a great deal depending on the type of cancer & other factors. After accidents, cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14. About 1,050 children under the age of 15 are expected to die from cancer in 2022.
Please donate now & support my challenge to fight kids' cancer!
If you are able to donate, please do so. No matter the amount, every little bit helps and will help me reach my goal!
I have had several friends and family members that have had or passed from some form of cancer, myself included.
I remember a little girl from my childhood who had leukemia at a very young age. She lived next door to our family. Her name was Rhonda.
One of my best friends passed from Acute Leukemia that he didn't know he had.
In 2020, I lost another friend from a rare form of cancer.
So for the month of September 2024, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.
