My Story

8 Sep 2023

This month I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

  • For me, or for the kids?
    8 Sep 2023

Today I decided to just ride around the neighborhood, since the weather was so good. Barely 70 when I started and no clouds around. Headed to some flatter streets because my town is very hilly, and today my knees hurt.

Headed up a hill made it worse. I really considered just making it a short loop today, but I thought "You know, these kids suffer a lot more than I do. Maybe I can grin and bear it a little longer since it's so nice outside today."

The I saw this flag in someone's yard. They had more in their flower bed, but I wanted to respect their privacy since I don't know them and didn't want to take pictures of their house. But I did get this one - these folks were highlighting Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. How cool is that?

So, I kept going. After a while I found a new neighborhood that I hadn't been in before, and before I knew it I was at 20 miles! I knew it would put me around 25 or so by the time I got back home, so I took some side routes to add some more distance. I beat my old PR of 28 miles!

So I don't know who this person is, but maybe I will meet them in their yard one day so I can thank them. This sign inspired me! Hopefully it will inspire you too.
