I'm Riding For
Ivone Garcia Lobo
My mother lived with cancer for 28 years. Through all of it, she carried herself with extraordinary courage, grace, and determination. She never allowed the disease to define her, and long before I knew I would need it, she showed me what it meant to keep going. Nine years ago, cancer came into my own life. Through surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, and the difficult days in between, I thought often of her. I tried to face my own fight the way I had watched her face hers: one day at a time, with hope, stubbornness, and the belief that there was still more life ahead. I was fortunate, and survived. My mother is no longer here, but what she taught me is. This year, I will ride another 100 miles in her memory and for children who are now facing battles they never should have had to fight. For me, those 100 miles are more than a goal. Each one carries a little of my mother, a little of my own journey, and a great deal of hope for a child still fighting. If you choose to support my ride, your donation will help fund research for better treatments and cures for childhood cancer. But it will also send a simple message to these children and their families: You are not fighting alone. I will carry that message with me for every mile. Thank you for being part of the journey!
My Story
Every September, I get back on my bike for a reason much bigger than the miles I ride.
I am taking part again in the Great Cycle Challenge, raising funds to help fight childhood cancer. Thousands of children in the U.S. hear the words “you have cancer” every year. Far too many never get the chance to grow up.
Cancer changed my own life, so this ride carries a meaning that is difficult to put into words. I was fortunate to come through my battle. These kids deserve that same chance, many more birthdays, adventures, dreams, and ordinary days ahead.
The money I raise will support the Children’s Cancer Research Fund, helping advance research and develop better, lifesaving treatments.
If you can support my ride, at any level, I would be deeply grateful. Every donation becomes part of something larger: giving a child a better chance at life.
Thank you for riding alongside me in this fight.
