Kathy & Dick
My mom is a fighter and is battling cancer. Well before her own diagnosis, she has always had a heart for children fighting cancer. My father-in-law, Dick, also just received a cancer diagnosis and is in the midst of his own battle. This September, I am riding for my Mom, my father-in-law and all the kids who are fighting childhood cancer.
My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

My Challenge

No Quitting
25 Sep 2026A long ride today - my longest ever. I felt like quitting, I felt like giving up … the last ten miles were frustrating with exhaustion & traffic. Today’s ride is dedicated to my Dad, my mother-in-law and step mother-in-law who are all battling their health issues. While none are cancer, they are all significant, challenging and frustrating in their own right. I was frustrated and challenged today, but at the end of the ride, I put my bicycle away and was able to put the frustration behind me knowing that I conquered the challenge. These loved ones, can’t put their ailments aside at the end of the day, and, on many days, feel more frustrated, downtrodden and defeated when they put their head on the pillow at night. My heart and my prayers go out to them for healing, for comfort, for peace and for daily victories. Same for the children suffering from cancer and their parents … prayers to all - every ride, no matter who it is specifically dedicated to, is for them.

The wind was unrelenting - an invisible and very formidable opponent. This ride today is in honor of and is dedicated to my mom, Kathy, and my father-in-law, Dick. My mom is a fighter and has battled her formidable opponent with strength, courage and ferocity … the invisible opponent is the mental struggle that continues after battling the physical condition. She continues to battle both but primarily the mental component now. My father-in-law has just started his battle - he is tough, mentally and physically. His formidable opponent shouldn’t stand a chance against his will, determination and fight. Of course, all this strength and healing comes from the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Great Physician.
