Liliana, my forever inspiration these 4 years!

This is Lily, now she's age 7. she's still fighting. S0 cute...and brave. Please help me help her and the (too) many little kids who need us, by supporting my ride with either a donation, or a share on Facebook or other social media, or just ask one or two friends to consider a good deed today. The link is https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/PaulBrindamour Thank you so much.

My Story

23 Sep 2024

[scroll down = updates] This September, 2024 I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! ...my 4th year riding for Liliana...she's grown! See her age 7 picture at the left (or below).

Why ride and help? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

* So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

* History: In 2021, the goals of 100 miles and $500 were beat with over $1,500 raised. 2022's goals, 150 miles and $1500, were CRUSHED; In 2023, I was amazed at the $2,907 in generous support from all of you, exceeding our 175 mile and $2,800 goals!

* So now getting more experienced (older?), so why not aim high to 200 miles and $3,000?

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve >>>>>>>>>> ...and THANK YOU to all for reading this !

Your support will save little lives.

A couple of reminders:

1. DONATIONS now, ahead of September, DO count;

2. My August training MILES will be zeroed out by GCC on 9-1 to be fair to all riders;

3. Since I'm traveling for 10 days in September, I'll likely have to continue riding in early October (allowed by GCC) and I WILL ride until at least the 200 mile goal is reached; and

4. There will be a September day called MATCH DAY; a national group will MATCH donations...so IF YOU ARE following me CLOSELY, watch for that opportunity; when known, I'll post a few days prior both here & on Facebook. If not for you, then please know any support, any time helps these little kids fighting cancer. THANKS !

    28 Oct 2024

    I seem to have LOST my access to Facebook and the fundraiser page??? (NOT the first time).

    But I've sent an email to everyone I originally reached out to to THANK all of YOU for the substantial and various forms of support (cheers, bike loans....and donations to GCC of course.

    I attached a report of our success and details of how we ranked nationally, within the state (CT), and within my age group. If you didn't get the report, just email me at psbrind1@gmail.com or text to 860 739 4668. I'd love to hear from you.

    A bonus today: I took a "left" from my last ride north towards Ogunquit from York, ME and found FLO'S, a 65 year old hot dog stand (see pic) run by an "old" couple. Cash only, and 11-3 only, and Thurs to Sunday only. It's WORTH it. $4 for the best hot dog ever (very special home-made relish). Only in Maine.

  • I'm still riding...Liliana still fighting cancer...we need your help to keep hope alive
    23 Sep 2024

    I thought you'd appreciate an update on Liliana, my inspiration the last 4 years, a letter we received from the leaders of the Great Cycle Challenge:

    Dear Paul and your supporters,

    Look at that smile. That’s a happy little girl. But it’s also a little girl fighting cancer.

    At 3 years of age, Liliana—“Lily” to her friends and family—was cheery, full of energy. But then she got pale, and she seemed to be tired all the time. Maybe it’s anemia. Lily’s mom, Tiffany, is a nurse. She knew to give her daughter iron supplements for anemia. But they didn’t help.

    The pediatrician urged a hospital visit. The emergency room doctor called Oncology. Very quickly, Lily received a diagnosis of leukemia. But then . . .

    Thanks to the giving of caring friends like you, Lily went into a clinical trial for a new drug . . . one that researchers believe could be not only more effective than other cancer treatments for children like Lily—but also less harmful, with fewer difficult side effects.

    Paul and friends, through your generous support of Children’s Cancer Research Fund, you make clinical trials possible for Lily and countless other children.

    “Trials like this help find less harsh treatments,” Tiffany says, “and we want to find ways to make things easier and more tolerable for kids like Lily.”

    But funding for such trials, and the research they represent, is scarce. Which means your support today is critically important.

    “These are kids who are just starting their lives,” Tiffany says. “They need this research.”

    Today, Lily is a giggly 7-year-old who is still on her cancer journey. She loves her older siblings and is obsessed with unicorns. When Lily is feeling well, she loves to play “pretend.” She’s “funny, shiny and full of life,” Tiffany says.

    There are so many children, just like Lily, who need help . . . I’m hoping you’ll help launch and sustain cancer research by the best and brightest leaders in the field. That’s what your donation right now will help to provide.

    Gratefully,

    The Great Cycle Challenge, and

    Elizabeth Crippen Allen, CEO Children’s Cancer Research Fund

    P.S. Your gift will make it possible for kids fighting cancer to get back to being kids. It’s all of us against childhood cancer!
