This September, I'm riding in the Great Cycle Challenge to help save the lives of children battling cancer.

For me, this isn't just another fundraiser, it's personal!

Cancer has forever changed my life. I lost both of my parents to this terrible disease, and today I am incredibly grateful to be a 7½-year colon cancer survivor. I know what it's like to hear the word "cancer." I know the fear, the uncertainty, the endless treatments, and the hope you cling to each day.

But as difficult as my journey has been, my heart breaks even more for the children who never get the chance to simply be children.

Every year, more than 15,700 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. Tragically, 38 children lose their battle every week. These aren't just statistics, they're sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, classmates and best friends. They deserve birthdays, family vacations, scraped knees from playing outside, graduations, and the opportunity to dream about tomorrow.

Instead, many spend their days in hospital rooms, enduring treatments that no child should ever have to face.

That's why I've committed to riding in the Great Cycle Challenge and raising money for the Children's Cancer Research Fund. Every mile I ride is for a child who can't. Every donation helps fund critical research that brings us closer to better treatments and one day, a cure.

As someone who survived cancer and who has lost the two people I loved most to this disease, I can tell you that hope is one of the greatest gifts we can give.
