Nicole

When I think of Nicole, I just smile! She was a curious wonderful child! Asked me hundred’s of questions, for being so shy ☺️ and what a giggle she had. I’m sure she would have grown up to be a veterinarian or a school teacher.

My Story

6 Jun 2026

This September, we aretaking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because not only is a child impacted with tremendous sickness and fright, the trickle down effect is also a challenge for a family who is supporting their Cancer stricken child. It was so hard to watch my niece Nicole go from a vibrant curious child to a wide eyed frightful child and then to a grown child, not by choice but sadly from having to endure things that children shouldn’t have to endure. Nicole always had a smile no matter how sick she was until the last year of her life. She spent that year mostly in hospitals and in commas and when she was awake she had much fear. I will spare you any hospital details as these images stay for life. The trickle down effect- Parents need to be by their child’s side and soon find themselves exhausted of PTO and any personal unpaid time off. Coworkers give their PTO in support and that becomes exhausted as well. Now it’s down to, do I be by my child’s side as they are clinging to parents or just one parent, or do I go back to work. What a hard decision. The consequences are now the parent gets fired for missing to many days YES FIRED and now there is only one parent working and insurance premiums are not cheap. Nicole was diagnosed at age 10 and at age 12 she finished her Chemotherapy. Unfortunately she relapsed and passed away at age 13. Cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
