I'm Riding For

Rhonda, and in honor of the brave #Gozarks

Rhonda, and in honor of the brave #Gozarks

My mom. Bill's mom. My sister. Carolyn. Rhonda. A 3 year old boy with acute leukemia in 1981. My precious neighbor Freda. People ask me if sometimes I just don't feel like riding. Yup, sometimes I'd rather sit on the porch with Bill and the dogs and enjoy a tall cool drink. Riding now, after my wreck takes on a whole new dimension. But people with cancer can't take a day off from it. They can't decide not to have it for a day. Moms can't look at their children and forget what is happening to them. Wives can't ignore the disease attacking their husbands. So even when it's hard for me to get on my bike and ride. It's easy, so easy in comparison. And you all do the pedaling! Every dollar you give pushes me up the next hill. Your generosity has ENCOURAGED and impressed me no END. We started out with a goal of 200 miles and $500. HA! You all blew that UP in the first 24 hours! We want to take care of our children. We don't want another grandfather to have empty arms, another mother to cry herself to sleep. We care. We can do this. I might be biting off more than I can chew (see photo hahaha), but I think you all will carry me. Well, I know it.

My Story

28 Jun 2022

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because I hate cancer. Because I have seen first hand that funding for cancer research and treatment improves life. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. I lost my mother to colon cancer when I was 20. I lost my sister to ovarian cancer when she was 60. And we lost Rhonda far too soon. Yet the money donated by regular folks like us to fund cancer treatment and research gave us extra YEARS with Rhonda!

Because any cancer research benefits ALL cancer patients and their families and their friends.

So I am doing the best I can to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

And here YOU have an opportunity to do something that makes you feel GOOD! Make a donation! You will whistle through your day knowing you did a Good Thing! I'll ride the miles and do the begging, gladly. And I'll appreciate every dollar you can give - YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

This is a good charity. CCRF is recognized for meeting all 20 standards by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance; they are a GuideStar Platinum Participant; and, they meet all the accountability standards from the Charities Review Council. You are smart to research your charity dollars!

Your support will change lives.

Thank you.

I'm taking advantage of you. Yup. There it is.

See, you all ROCK. You CARE. You have the POWER to make a difference. You are able and willing to give a bit while I push myself on the bike and BECAUSE OF YOU LIVES ARE CHANGED FOR THE BETTER! Research into cancer treatment costs money, and YOU make a difference. Rhonda's catch phrase was WE GOT THIS. "*WE*".

Rhonda lived more than six years with a diagnosis that used to carry a life expectancy of six months. Because people like us donated money for cancer research. During those six years so many little miracles happened. We got six more years with our friend. We learned so much from her. We laughed. We experienced her generosity of spirit.

I will admit that riding my bike is more challenging than it used to be. But SO WHAT? If I can count on your generosity and caring spirits, SO WHAT????? If a mom could get six more years with her four year old? If a dad could hear the words that his twelve year old's cancer is cured? If a set of grandparents could go to sleep without crying?

    SO WHAT.
