I'm Riding For

Hugo Duarte

Hugo Duarte

Hugo was a kid at heart, taken from us much too soon by cancer. His song "Scars" is a great inspiration for me on this ride, as he begins it with his first riding lesson as a child and ends it with the death of his father, who taught him to ride a bike. Hugo's songs and stories are full of life lessons. This ride is for you, Hugo, my friend.

My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

  • Riding Again on Callie's Crew
    17 Apr 2018

I'm riding on Callie's Crew and am looking forward to receiving one of these first of a kind t-shirts...But what's more important is my efforts and your support to help kick cancer's butt! Callie recently passed, losing her fight against a horrible disease, especially for children. She was only 10 years old. We can't let this continue. We must keep fighting!

Currently, I'm at 44% of my fundraising goal and it's still only April! In June I will seek my minimum of 600 miles for the month. I'm confident that I will reach my goals with your help and support! Please help if you can.

  • Rubber Side Down
    7 Apr 2018

This is my fourth year participating in the GCCUSA since it began in 2015. My first two years were in Iowa, with lat year and this year in Florida. I recently moved from Key West to Goulds, just South of Miami, and I've been exploring new routes for my upcoming rides in June.

I hope you will follow my rides as I record them and can help out as a sponsor so we can kick cancer's but together! You'll see recorded rides in the next two months, but they won't count towards my personal challenge of 600 miles for the June event. Donations however do count. So help if you can and/or help me spread the word for this awesome fundraiser for kids' cancer!

  • Here I Go Again
    25 Mar 2018

In 2015, someone had this crazy idea that there could be a national fundraiser involving cyclists of all ages and abilities to raise money for Children's Cancer Research Fund while committing to their own personal goals on miles and dollars. When I ran across an ad for this event, I was hooked.

So here it is, 2018, and I'm gearing up (pun intended) for my fourth year of the Great Cycle Challenge. It's another change of location for me, plus Old Blue has had a complete overhaul, and a new addition to my little bike family, Captain Black, will be involved in some of my rides.

I'm looking forward to some new challenges for you and me alike to add even more fun to my rides. Here's to another record-breaking year for the GCCUSA!
