I'm Riding For

Isa

My main reason for trying to raise money for this cause is because my nephew’s oldest daughter, Isa, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma cancer in March 2020, at the age of 13. Her oncologists also took an aggressive approach and recommended stem cell transplant. In June, after 4 cycles of chemotherapy she endured surgery to remove 90% of a tumor as well as her left adrenal gland. In August 2020 she underwent her first stem cell transplant. In October 2020, she received a second stem cell transplant. She received 12 rounds of radiation between November and December and another 5 rounds of low dose chemotherapy from January through June 2021. She’s now in remission but has to continue to see her oncologist for scans and bloodwork to monitor her condition. So far everything looks great and she is back to living a normal life. Cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. Kids should be living life, not fighting it.

My Story

15 Jul 2022

This September I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight childhood cancer! I have pledged to ride 300 miles for this cause. I would like to ask anyone who wants to support me in this endeavor to donate a minimum of one cent per mile. Of course, you can contribute more or less than this amount. Any contribution would be appreciated.

I myself am a cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2016. When I was first diagnosed with cancer my oncologist from Sharp Memorial in San Diego, told me and my wife, Margie, that if I had this cancer 6 years prior, I would not have survived. That’s how far cancer research can come in a relatively short time period. After a year of chemotherapy I was told I was in remission. Then in 2018, after complaining of nagging back pain, I was given a CAT Scan that revealed that my cancer had returned. This time my oncologist decided to take a more aggressive approach, and my care was transferred to UCSD Hospital. The new oncologist recommended a stem cell transplant using my own stem cells. After intense dosages of chemotherapy my immune system was wiped out. My stem cells were then reintroduced into my body and my healing process began. I was once again told that my cancer was gone and I was in remission. It has been four years that I have been cured from this potentially deadly disease.

So, I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the bright futures they deserve.

Please read the accompanying tribute on this page about a young family member of mine that has been directly affected by childhood cancer.

Thank you, Tom
