Izzy Sullivan

Izzy is my 9.5 year old daughter who was diagnosed with a germ cell yolk sack tumor a week after her first birthday. Today she is in good health, always active and considered a survivor! Every day is a gift and we raise money and awareness for other little ones who cancer took too soon.

My Story

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

3,163 days ago we heard the awful words “your child has cancer.” Each day since then we’ve worked hard to bring awareness to this awful disease and create opportunities for others to join in the fight.

Today kicks off my annual month-long Great Cycle Challenge where I ride my bike to create awareness and raise funds for life-saving research.

My goal this year is to ride 200 miles and raise $3,163 dollars, one dollar for each day we’ve been part of this club we never believed we would be part of.

As I write this I’m watching my healthy 9 1/2 year old survivor prepare to start 4th grade TOMORROW. What a gift! She grew 2.5 inches over the past year, which is amazing. While she was on treatment for the better part of a year she didn't grow at all. Her tiny 16lb body at age 1 endured harsh treatments and loads of mental and physical struggle.

The saddest part of this type of reality is that so many kiddos like Izzy don’t hit these milestones because cancer took them too soon.
