Anthony was seven when he got sick with chronic headaches and vomiting. We were told it was either the flu, migraines, or a sinus infection. Nobody really knew for sure until the doctors checked his optic nerve and told us something didn’t look right. An MRI revealed a brain tumor, and that started the downward spiral. After that, we were given a diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor. My healthy child had brain cancer. No parent plans for this.

He fought hard for two years against a demon that no child should ever have to worry about: chemotherapy, Blood-Brain-Barrier-Disruption, radiation, and weight gain, to name a few of the things he had to tolerate. On December 23, 1997, he lost his battle, and God called him home.

This September, I am again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer. Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
