Caleb Vander Ven

Caleb was diagnosed with a brain tumor when be was 9. He had been sick for a year and they kept taking him to doctors. Finally, they took him to the right doctor, one who listened to all of the symptoms. He did blood work an then an MRI. They received a call saying that Caleb had a tumor on his optic nerve. St. Jude's Research Hospital took Caleb's case. When he was 10, they removed the tumor and his entire pituitary gland. Caleb has no hormonal function at all due to the removal. Caleb continues to get treatment from Dr. Paul Klimo in Memphis, TN and from Dr. Brianna Patterson at Aflac Cancer in the cancer survivor program. This is something that will be with him forever. Caleb currently suffers with Diabetes Insipidus. No growth hormone. No adrenal function. No thyroid function. No testosterone and stomach disease due to his illness. But, he is tough and continues to amaze everyone with his ability to look on the bright side of things.

My Story

This will be my 9th year that I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

    Caleb’s last day of internship at Virgil Brown & Associates was 08/02/2024. He learned so much from the amazing attorneys. He was sad to leave, but his second year of law school is about to begin. He hopes to return next summer.

    I love a great T-shirt. Tracie Vander Ven, (Caleb's mom) sent me a surprise and I couldn't wait to wear it to represent as a "Spin Queen". I absolutely love to ride my spin bikes. Yes, with a 's'. This September, I will be riding my Echelon and Peloton bike for the 9th year with the Great Cycle Challenge.
