Slugger Johnson

This year has been hard, it seems the weight of the world and the unrest in our country, along with the added stress of inflation and the increased cost of living takes its toll in every area of our lives. This year I am honoring my father-in-law, Slugger; I'm riding in remembrance of him. He was a family pillar and a joyful bright light in our lives and the lives of my kids. He lost his battle with cancer 10 years ago now. Life was forever altered when he left, our family dynamic was impacted more than words can explain. I have included a pic of my family, this is why I ride. Because of Slugger, I found Chris and we created this little family that Slugger so loved. He will always be loved and missed greatly, and I hope as we move forward there will be more advances and better ways to battle this horrific demon, we call cancer.

My Story

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer to support and encourage those in the fight of their life and to remember and honor loved ones lost by this evil called cancer.

I started cycling after an accident in 2010, it has become a way of life for me. For a short time, it replaced my sacred horse-riding time until I could get back into the equine saddle. I love the outdoors, and everything out there, chasing the sunset and discovering new incredible views is where I thrive and fill my soul. I am looking forward to the challenge.

Last December, 2024 I had a major R Shoulder dislocation with major surgery in April 2025. I am working hard in that recover and added a hundred miles to my goal this year to challenge myself to build endurance and strength... I am starting my challenge on my stationary Concept 2 Bike Erg as Flash is getting tuned up with Ben at Salmonberry Cycle. Nearly 10k miles can be tough on an aging gal and she deserves only the best care. =0)
