Pierce Gaines

In August 2019, our family heard the words no parent ever expects to hear: "Your son has leukemia." From that moment forward, life changed. Pierce spent much of his high school journey fighting cancer. He completed ninth grade from home, navigated the challenges of treatment during COVID, celebrated his sixteenth birthday in the middle of his battle, and somehow continued to face each day with remarkable courage. What inspired Patty and me most wasn't just his determination—it was his attitude. He rarely complained, never asked, "Why me?", and somehow kept his faith, his humor, and his hope through it all. Today, by the grace of God, the unwavering love of family and friends, and the extraordinary doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Nemours Children's Health and Baptist Health, Pierce is cancer-free. He has graduated from high school and is stepping into the next chapter of his life healthy. Our family's scars have become part of our testimony. This ride is our way of saying thank you to those who carried us through our darkest days and of helping the next family hear the words every parent longs to hear: "Your child is cancer-free." Today, Pierce is healthy and cancer-free. Our family's scars have become part of our testimony. Every mile I ride is for a child like Pierce who is still fighting. My Story

This September, I'll be riding 500 miles in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight children's cancer.

This will be my sixth year participating in the challenge.

Over the past six years, thanks to incredible friends, family, customers, vendors, and supporters, we've ridden more than 1,200 miles and raised over $41,000 to help fund childhood cancer research.

But for me, this isn't just another charity ride.

It's personal.

In 2019, our son Pierce was diagnosed with leukemia.

Like every family facing childhood cancer, we entered a world we never expected to know. There were doctor's appointments, treatments, uncertainty, and countless prayers.

Through it all, Pierce showed incredible courage. He never lost his faith, his sense of humor, or his determination. Watching him fight changed our family forever.

Today, Pierce is healthy and cancer-free.

We will never stop thanking God for His faithfulness and the remarkable doctors, nurses, researchers, and caregivers who walked beside us throughout that journey.

Now it's our turn to help the next family.

Every day in America, children are diagnosed with cancer. Every family deserves the same hope we were given.

That's why I'm riding.
