My Story

1 Sep 2020

Dear Team,

We have all had painful conversations about cancer. They all give you that overwhelming feeling. That indescribable feeling/non-feeling that envelops you from the inside out. This September, I am participating in the 2020 Great Cycle Challenge USA to be a part of putting an end to these dreaded conversations.

Our Challenge - to work together to fight cancer! Will you please join our team as a cyclist or by making a donation? My goal is to raise $5,000 for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund (CCRF) in support of its 6th annual Great Cycle Challenge USA. I pledge to you, that I will ride 100 miles throughout the month of September.

Together we have raised $20,334.49 for CCRF to fight Children’s Cancer! You have my sincerest appreciation!

Please follow my link above to make your donation or join as a participate in Great Cycle Challenge USA.

Many thanks to you!

Barb

  • Had a great evening ride with Patrick and Oliver!
    5 Sep 2020

    What a great evening. I had the pleasure of riding with my son and grandson for Day 4 of the Great Cycle Challenge on the I&M Canal Trail! Oliver didn't want to be in the picture, but he is :-) !

    I wish each spoke of our team a safe and happy Holiday weekend!

  • The Spinning Spokes has a new team member!!
    27 Aug 2020

    Thank you, Ken Clark, for joining our team and riding with us!!

    We have 5 spokes now! Patrick Moore, Aubrey Elizabeth Perez, Catherine Sobon-Burton , Ken Clark and myself and we would love for more riders to join our team in the Great Cycle Challenge. If you are thinking about it, don't hesitate to click the link. The more spokes, the more strength to fight this beast.

  • This is why we ride....
    24 Aug 2020

    Meet Harriet.

    4-year-old Harriet was diagnosed with t-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia 12 months ago...

    And this little lady is as tough as they get.

    Harriet is a warrior (and a princess). ❤️

    In the last 12 months since her diagnosis, here's just some of what this gorgeous girl has endured...

    * 120 x days of chemotherapy

    * 8 x blood transfusions

    * 14 x lumbar punctures

    * 2 x bone marrow biopsies

    * 112 x pokes (from port accesses to shots)

    * 57 x clinic visits

    * 5 x visits to the emergency room

    Wow, this is one tough cookie.

    Harriet even helps her mom put the cream and plastic wrap over the port in her chest without a tear in her eye, even though it is a painful and scary process.

    Remember, she is only 4 years old.

    Her mom Kelly said, "It was sad to see that she has to do that, but it also made me think how far we've come."

    As of the 31st of July, Harriet is now on maintenance treatment.

    This past weekend, Harriet and her family have marked her 'warrior day' - the anniversary of her diagnosis. They've been celebrating how hard she has fought throughout this past year. ❤️

    This brave princess has come so far, but she still has a long way to go...

    Harriet should be living life, not fighting for it.

    This is why we ride....
