My Story

19 Aug 2020

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it. WE are the Solution, and together WE can do something to make a HUGE difference in the lives of children and their families who are battling this horrendous disease every single day!

So I am raising funds through my Fierce 150-Mile Cycle Challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve. TOGETHER WE CAN DO THIS!

Blessings to You. Thank You. I Appreciate and Love You! Billy

Tomorrow will be a special ride for me, as it will be the first ride in which I'll be wearing my Great Cycle Challenge Hero's Jersey! Looking forward to sporting the "Spidey" Red, Blue, & Black! Think I might also try an inland trail tomorrow... hoping the smoke-filled air is tolerable! Let's DO THIS!!

  • 32.2 Mile Ride Today! Gaining Strength!
    8 Sep 2020

Temps cooled down to mid-70s... unfortunately the smoke from the Northern California Wildfires got thicker and more persistent. Nonetheless it was a good 32+ mile ride today... granted, my trusty steed “Coltrane” kept bugging me to stop and rest... he convinced me to take a break at about the 21 mile mark and then we were back at it to the finish!!

  • 54 Miles Down 96 Miles to Go!
    8 Sep 2020

Good start to the week last week, with a 27+ mile ride. The weather seems to have cooled down today, though there is still substantial smoke in the air. My rides seem to be restricted to the San Francisco Bay Waterfront where the air is cleaner. Expecting high temps in the low 90s later today, so headed out to get my ride in shortly! Want to knock off at least 20 more miles...Wish Me Luck Tribe!

  • Last Ride on Northern California Vacation
    4 Sep 2020

Didn’t get in as many miles on vacation as hoped... have to make up miles now that I’m back home in the Bay Area. Last ride on 9/1 took us from the entrance of Gualala Regional park down to the beach where we were able to spot a couple of whales spouting and tail breaching!

    29 Aug 2020

Hey Tribe! I'm taking a Day of Rest Today! Tomorrow, Sunday, August 30th, I'll sneak in one last Training Ride. On Monday I leave town for a quick vacation to the Mendocino County Coast. Of course, I'm bringing my bike with me! I'll be doing trail riding and so will leave "Coltrane" (my Roadbike) home and will be bringing "Muddy Waters" (my Mountainbike) along for the trip. I'm excited that my first "Official" Ride for the Challenge will be along the beautiful and amazingly scenic Northern California Pacific Coastline. I'm exccited to get going on this Fierce 150-Mile Challenge to BEAT Kids' Cancer!! Thanks for your prayers and support Tribe!!

  • 20.2 Mile Training Ride to the Cal Campus and Back!
    28 Aug 2020

Great 20.2 Mile Training Ride today to follow Tuesday’s 25.5 Mile Ride. Legs were pretty tired going into the ride, but was able to gut it out. Part of my ride was in “Enemy Territory”, aka the University of California, Berkeley (Cal) campus. Felt good to be a Stanford Guy riding with a Stanford logo mask... pretty sure I successfully desecrated Bear Country! Pretty excited to start counting these miles for the Great Cycling Challenge for Kids’ Cancer beginning next Tuesday!

  • 25.5 Mile Training Ride- Prepping for the Challenge Start Next Week!
    26 Aug 2020

Had to take my car into the shop today so threw my bike in the back and got a nice 25+ mile ride in while Art, my mechanic, was fixing it! First time over the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge into Marin County. Quite a bit of smoke from the Northern California Wildfiresfires at the beginning of the ride, especially at the top of the Bridge, but it improved quite a bit during the ride and I was rewarded with Beautiful Bay Views, as usual! Now my trusty steed “Coltrane” is mounted on the car and we are ready to head home!

  • Training Ride Richmond Marina to Emeryville Marina RT
    24 Aug 2020

Great 21.1 mile afternoon/evening ride. Had to wait for the air to “clean-up” from it’s “extremely unhealthy” status earlier in the day; caused by the Northern California Wildfires. Late afternoon the winds picked up and the temperature dropped allowing the smoky air to push out. Beautiful sunset due tho the smoke! Just happy to have stayed on track!
