I'm Riding For

Team Nat,Callie, Kelly, Seany, Kevin and Leanne

Team Nat,Callie, Kelly, Seany, Kevin and Leanne

Riding this year for Team Nat who was one of the poster children in this year's Cycle Challenge and sadly, recently lost her battle with cancer. As a member of Team Nat , I am dedicating my rides this June in her memory. Forever in out hearts Nathalia. I will also be riding for Callie's Crew for the second year. And again my niece, Kelly Rogers who was diagnosed with kidney cancer when she was only a little girl of 4. Her battle with this was successful and she is my hero for being such a tough fighter!! Nephew Seany Rogers has been fighting numerous medical issues since he was a child and has shown an amazing ability to deal with every one of them. His zest for life is unmatched!! Sadly I am adding Kevin Lynch to my tribute list. Kevin was a runner on my teams back in the '70's and just lost his brief battle with leukemia. So I am dedicating my rides to you too Kevin. Also another former student, Leanne Kozak who lost her battle with melanoma.

My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

John

  • A Great Start
    2 Jun 2019

First day of the 2019 Challenge and logged over 25 miles including an afternoon ride at Sara’s in Falmouth. Took Rt 1 south across the Casco Bay Br. to Portland and on the way back rode over to Mackworth Island. This is where Gov. Muskie built a school for deaf children.

Second day riding in Falmouth not so good..hit a pot hole on the ride to Cumberland and blew my front tire!! Sara had to come get me....at least i didn't fall off the bike!!!

  • Easter Morning Ride
    21 Apr 2019

Beautiful day here in Florida, kind of like a summer’s day in Maine. Took a nice ride over to Millenium Park and saw an eagle 🦅 who made the mistake of landing in a tree near a blue jay nest!! The jays wanted no part of having an eagle so close and were dive bombing her. The little guys were tenacious!! Not unlike the little ones fighting cancer... be tenacious too kids!!!

    1 Mar 2019

Had a great ride this week from Clearwater up to Crystal Beach on the Pinellas Trail. My goal was Tarpon Springs but the weather turned bad so turned back. Approaching Duneden a thunderstorm blew in from the Gulf and I got drenched!! But a good ride none the less.. over 20 miles!!

  • A Good First Month
    3 Feb 2019

Riding all over Pinellas County here in Florida during the month of January. Logged 335 miles and and got to see some interesting things like a big gopher tortoise in Seminole Park crossing the road. Of course I got off my bike and protected him from cars!! Did a Pentathlon at the St Pete Beach races...a 5K power walk and a 9 mile bike ride in memory of Callie who lost her battle with cancer last April.

  • New Years Ride
    2 Jan 2019

Nice ride today on a sunny day in Madeira Beach. My first ride of the year was in memory of Callie. She was a little girl who captured the hearts of thousands of cyclists last year and many of us joined together for her team Callie’s Crew. She even designed our shirts but sadly she did not live long enough to see us ride. Please think of Callie and all the other children battling cancer as we enter a new year 2019.

    1 Jan 2019

Back in Florida after almost 3 weeks back North on LI and Maine. Great Christmas Eve with Kerry and Christmas Day with Sara and baby Bea. Took a nice ride along Gulf Blvd up to Clearwater Beach. Logged over 4,000 miles this year on the Challenge and the 505 in June is my best month ever! Thank you to all of my sponsors!! It’s been a great year.

  • Final Ride of 2018 Challenge
    9 Sep 2018

Not sure what happened but after 100 days I guess the folks at GCCUSA decided to pull the plug on this year!! So my final stats are $1,214.86 raised by my generous sponsors and I trekked 1,275 miles. Top 5 in Maine for both stats.. but the important thing is raising awareness of kids cancer and the bonus was having niece Kelly join me on the Jumbotron in Times Square again this summer!!

In closing out this 2018 Challenge,I cant help but think of a little girl who we dedicated our rides to but didn’t survive to see the results.. you may be gone Callie but are forever in our hearts!!❤️🚴‍♂️😢
