My Story

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Kevin

My Challenge

  • Final Ride
    30 Sep 2020

Started on the Legacy Trail and finished on the Legacy Trail. What a wonderful and challenging journey. Most miles ridden in one month. First century in seven years.

Thought a lot about the children going through treatment, particularly when I was feeling some discomfort. Reminded myself it was nothing compared to what the children have to endure. That was a big part of what kept me going.

Did a lot of praying, too. For the children, for the doctors, and for you. Thanks once again from the bottom of my heart to my sponsors.

One mile for each dollar donated. It was touch and go there for awhile with a late contribution coming in. Thank all of you for supporting and encouraging me during this challenge. Thank you also for supporting children’s cancer research with your dollars. May they be ever closer to finding cures so no child has to go through that trial.

  • Goal!
    15 Sep 2020

I’ve pedaled 500 miles and reached my goal! I originally thought I might ride a mile for every dollar donated to my account. You, my sponsors, have been extremely generous. It may be out of reach, as it would be more miles than I have ever ridden in one month. More than I’ve ridden in some years! But I’ll keep pedaling and we’ll see how far I can get.

Some people said I should set my goal higher. To those people I say ride a mile with me. Or better yet, ride 500 miles with me. Actually, I would love for you to ride with me. Your company would be a pleasure. It gets very tedious and sometimes grueling to cover the same territory day after day and time after time by oneself. I decided though to turn off my complaining and enjoy the moment.

So I am enjoying the sunrise, the wind in my face, the fragrance and beauty of the wild flowers, the occasional wildlife that pops up, and the people I meet on the trail. Because I get to ride my bike. Not cooped up in a hospital ward going through multiple treatments to fight a disease that could take my life. We need to kick cancer’s butt and get children back to enjoying the simple pleasures of life. Like riding a bike.

Take care of one another and keep the rubber side down.

    Goal!

  • Christopher's Ride
    12 Sep 2020

I'm riding in the Great Cycling Challenge to raise awareness of children's cancer and raise funds for research. Today I dedicated my ride to Christopher, who died from childhood cancer. That's a loss I wish no parent had to endure. I lifted his family up in prayer throughout the ride. My hope is the family will be comforted and know peace. And I hope the researchers find cures for all the varieties of children's cancer.
