My Story

11 May 2020

My son, Thomas, was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at age 2-1/2. The tumor was behind his right eye and required a treatment combination of radiation to his head and many months of chemotherapy. His treatment resulted in him losing his sight in both eyes along with many other complications too long to list.

At age 8, Thomas' cancer returned with a vengeance which required more chemotherapy. At age 9, our family sadly lost our sweet Thomas.

Thomas was a brave warrior who endured more than most people will in a lifetime. However, he never complained and he loved life!

Please join me in combating this cruel disease. Children should be laughing and playing and learning....not fighting for their lives and enduring brutal treatments!

Thank You!

My Challenge

  • October 1st
    1 Oct 2020

Today, October 1st, 1989, Jerome and I took our sick little 2 year old son to Duke Hospital for the first time. We would soon learn that Thomas had cancer and the prognosis wasn't good. The next 7 years we fought to save Thomas' life. In 1996, Thomas lost his battle with cancer.

Yes, this is the hardest thing I will ever do in my life. I watched my son struggle through the painful treatments only to lose his life. I joined the Great Cycle Challenge in an effort to fight childhood cancer. Thank you to the many friends and family who supported my pledge to ride 250 miles in September. Your monetary donations WILL make a difference and your prayers have been felt.

I was unable to complete the challenge in September because I had COVID-19 the first 2 weeks of the month and then needed a week to recover. I'm all well now and look forward to completing my pledge before the end of October. Thank you for you support and understanding.
