I'm Riding For

Wesley Jones

Wesley Jones

A couple of years ago, the barre3 location in Berwyn, PA allowed me to film an embarrassing ballet routine in their studio. I had promised to do the dance, if I hit my fundraising goal, and the studio was helping me fulfill that commitment. Little did they know that a year and a half later one of their own instructors would receive the heartbreaking diagnosis that her child had cancer. This year, I am dedicating my riding to that instructor's son, Wesley Jones, who is engaged in a tough fight with leukemia.

My Story

15 Feb 2022

I am riding in Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! This will be my eighth year participating in the event. I want to thank everyone who has supported me in the past and I hope you will continue that support.

There is no doubt the past couple of years have been a struggle for many. Our lives and routines have been disrupted by the coronavirus. Simply put, life has not been normal. Now, imagine adding the stress and heartbreak of learning your child has been diagnosed with cancer. It would be devastating.

So I am once again raising funds for the Children's Cancer Research Fund to help find a cure . The money you donate will allow them to continue their work in funding lifesaving research. Every dollar will bring us one step closer to helping another child beat this disease.

Your support does, and will, change little lives for the better - as I hope it does for Wesley!

Thank you.

Chemotherapy is brutal. It does not discriminate. It kills both the bad (cancer cells) and the good (platelets among other things). This why the need supply of platelets is so important to cancer patients like Wesley.

From Wesley's mom's journal: "The cocktail of chemotherapy Wes was taking really hit his little body hard. He needed countless blood and platelet transfusions, and suffered from a few significant nosebleeds that were hard to control - a side effect of his low platelet count."

Please consider making an appointment to give platelets.

  • The embarrassing ballet video and its connection to Wesley
    16 Feb 2022

Wesley's mom (Christy) is an instructor at the barre3 studio in Berwyn, PA. My daughter, Molly, loved taking classes with her. It was in this very studio that this very awkward attempt at ballet had been filmed in 2020. This past past October (2021) Molly told me that Christy's son had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. My 2021 Great Cycle Challenge had just ended. At 70 years of age, I had been considering not riding in the event again. However, learning of Wesley's diagnosis rekindled a desire to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. I reached out to Christy to see if she would be okay with me "riding for Wesley " in this year's event. She whole heartedly agreed. I am so honored to be riding for this young champ!
