Azaelea

Azaelea

Day +98 She's home for the first time since February! What a feeling! The whole family under one roof! 😁😁😁😁😁😁 Remission? Almost! Pretty much yes, but on a technicality, we gotta wait for the next biopsy to make it official 🧡 A minuscule amount of her blood cells are lingering and within those less than .085% contain the genetic marker for leukemia. The donor immune system should knock those out, no problem. They expect to see 0% at the next biopsy. We're waiting on some other results. Starting some new meds to bring up cell counts to stabilize her blood health, and getting settled in with the new/old team of oncologists & the local lab. There's still a ways to go on this journey. Many thanks, again, to the stranger that selflessly donated stem cells for this transplant. Jessica & Jesse are individually traveling between home and hospital due to Covid-19 restrictions. The hospital only allows one parent at a time on the grounds.

My Story

24 Feb 2021

I'm riding to fight kids' cancer! The month of September!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support the Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

This was my ride today. Parking at the Train Bell Resort parking lot and riding south to check it out before my group ride on September 1.

It was an easy route straight to Wise Rd and only a round trip of 10 miles. Easy. They have repaired the trail and filled in the cracks so it was an easy ride and quite pleasant.

Some days are like that. Even for the kiddos fighting cancer. Some days are a waiting game, and others are anxious and fearful, and painful.

We can do this! We can fight to help these kiddos. It is easy to ride our bikes and shout out to the world that we are doing this for the kids. But we need to actually do this.

Today I was honored to meet Jessica, Azaelea's mom who took a day away from the hospital in the cities to prepare for the next week. The unknown.

It is all dependent upon what the blood test show. Will they stay longer in the big city hospital, or return to their quiet place in the woods?

I am personally hoping for the best. And I will ride no matter what the outcome is. Azaelea needs our support. And our love.

    Stay stong!

I rode today with Azaelea in my heart. Seeing the beauty of the mine lakes up in Crosby and seeing so many people out there riding and enjoying life.

So much to see and smell.

Azaelea is back in the hospital and working hard to get herself well. She doesn't have the pleasure or the freedom to enjoy nature the way we do. When I struggle riding, or feel pain in parts of my body, I acknowledge them and then push through because the pain or struggle I am having is nothing compared to what these kids are going through. Please be kind to everyone and love where you are.

Azealea is back in the hospital with low blood counts. They need to figure out what is causing the counts to be so dangerously low. Check out her page on Facebook for more details, but meanwhile, let's keep her in our thoughts! https://www.facebook.com/Azaeleas-Road-to-Remission-101791818383982/?__cft__[0]=AZUuAdebu7cY0kwGQ4wMulFvEqASX4gb3D00G8rlT5j8HIuOgBIvnu1QT5SbreBPn7eVyuOpPvWJWWussjW8FCLltx4xWR4wzJ1CRcxexAIyX7nXyk1qYz9vxvqVZ_iBsToORNatYGU_Lh84ePMODjCua-5I_Dhap_PMPuHfUM1DqqyE5juEO5kD55BcoEmSFhSiWs3DXIdO5otckiANG16c&__tn__=-UC%2CP-y-R

After our 10 mile ride to the headwaters and back, we were sitting at the Douglas Lodge waiting for a table for lunch. A family was sitting there and we started talking about my shirt and they were wondering if I took donations. Of course!!! The mom told me she has a nephew that is struggling for the second time with cancer. He is eleven and his name is Cullen. She pulled $20 out of her purse and asked if I could take this. I asked for her email so she could be properly thanked and she said 'no'. I told her I would put this in to honor Cullen. And this is why we do this! To honor these kids and to raise awareness of children with cancer! I thank her and all of you for helping children fight this horrible disease. Here is to Cullen and all the children that are struggling. And I send this with hugs!

    20 Jun 2021

So today I wanted to see if I could ride 20 miles at one stretch. YAY for me! In spite of burning thighs and sit bones, I finished! I did it! If Azaelea can endure what she has with fighting cancer, then I can push myself through the pain of riding, for the second day in a row! And 20 miles turned into 21!

I amazed myself! And I am sure that Azaelea is amazing herself as well, but taking control of her cancer. She is just that special kiddo that is badass!

So every ride I do now will cause me some pain and will make me stronger!

Walker to LaPorte was beautiful. Peaceful and lovely. Just as it was planned.

We were out before the crowds, but closer to noon, the trail got busy.

So nice to see the smiles on the faces of those enjoying nature! All ages.

Thanks for inspiring me and pushing me through this with your donations! It does help me keep on going, and it also helps the Children's Cancer Center to help all these people have a fighting chance!

Upped my miles and upped my money raised.
