Antony Alvarado

Antony Alvarado

Antony is an inspiration to me. I met him when I visited Sophia's High School, on open house night. He was manning a booth that he created as a fundraiser. He had buttons for sale that said, Keep Calm and Cure Cancer. I asked him if he was doing this for someone and he said he was doing it for himself since he was currently fighting cancer. He was so joyous and happy to be doing this fundraiser booth. He made a big impact on me with his smile and enthusiasm. I bought tickets and played the game. Antony made me think about what is important in life and to be thankful for all that I have, Later, I had the pleasure of recording Antony giving a senior message to his family and thanking all the doctors and staff who have helped him fight cancer. Again, he just really amazed me with his uplifting spirit. May we find the cure for your cancer, today!

My Story

15 Sep 2024

2024 - Update - this year I am participating again (3rd year) in the Great Cycle Challenge, an organization that raises funds for research to help end childhood cancer. This event is only in the month of September. We have two weeks left! As you know, I love helping others. In 2018, when I completed 100 miles and raised a few hundred dollars for the GCC, I wrote about Antony who was in high school with Sophia. He had such a positive light about him despite having battled cancer 4 times as a child. I hope that he continues to be in remission and is thriving. And that all children and families who are suffering are healed. Thank you for supporting my fundraiser as we all work together to make a difference. I participated in this fundraiser in 2018, 2020 and in 2021 and biked $a total of 243 miles and raised a total of $1525. This year my goal is modest and I hope to make a difference!

“18 is a special # is Judaism. The number 18 is written as Chai also refers to the number 18. That’s because each Hebrew letter has a numerical equivalent, and the sum of chet (numerical value of 8) and yud (numerical value of 10) is 18. As a result of its connection to the word for life, the number 18 is considered a special number in Jewish tradition. For this reason, Jews frequently make gifts or charitable contributions in multiples of $18. L'Chai! To LIfe.”
