Olive Rose

Olive Rose

This is Olive Rose, the 16-month-old daughter of Nick and Mikaela. She was taken to the ER on Friday evening 12/11/20, where it discovered that she had a cantaloupe-sized liver tumor. Olive had an incredibly rare and aggressive type of liver tumor called small cell undifferentiated hepatoblastoma. It was INI-1 negative, leading some doctors to classify it as a rhabdoid tumor. There are around 50 cases ever in all of recorded medical history. All but two of the many surgeons that were contacted declined to perform the surgery needed to remove Olive’s tumor, as it was very difficult/risky. February of this year, Olive and her family temporarily relocated from St. Pete, FL to Boston for her surgery at Boston Children's Hospital. The surgery was a great success and they returned home to complete her recovery and chemo. In July, Olive not only finished her last chemo treatment, but also had her follow up CT scans which showed no signs of residual or recurring tumor! Today, Olive continues to celebrate the end of chemo treatments. She is a true warrior and an inspiration to others who are battling to overcome cancer. Way to go Olive!

My Story

This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

    11 Sep 2021

This week has been rather humbling. Between the generous donations and overwhelming support. Special “Thank you!” to all of you.

I’ve been getting up early here in Florida and starting my rides at 5am in the dark. It’s motivating during my rides to think about the challenges that Olive overcame. Makes this challenge of riding 400 miles in 30 days seem like nothing. Olive is a true warrior!

I’m hoping to hit the halfway point on my mileage goal early next week. Only 264 miles to go of the original 400 mile goal. I’m also closing in fast on my fundraising goal of $1000.

136 miles behind me… 264 miles to go!
