In November 2017 I was 60 years old, 267 lbs and a type II diabetic. I began a health journey with the purchase of an e-bike working up to riding 700 miles in June 2018 for my first Great Cycle Challenge. I reversed my type 2 diabetes (14 years after diagnosis) and remain 100 lbs lighter.

I was diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer in October 2023. I had my first PET/CT scan - a technology which I helped develop - where I learned that my cancer had spread to lymph nodes. I began a new treatment the week it was approved by the FDA. I have my bladder and currently have no evidence of disease by imaging, circulating DNA and cystoscopy.

I have an even stronger motivation as I enter my 8th Great Cycle Challenge: Cancer research funding is at risk. Children's cancers are different than most cancers which affect adults and unfortunately do not receive the same level of funding for breakthroughs such as that I am benefiting from. This is the need the Children's Cancer Research Fund serves and is more important than ever.

Means to achieve unity of purpose is a great concern these days - realizing a world where we don't lose children to cancer would seem a great place to start. Your generous donations are sincerely appreciated.
